Well I had this in mind:

ASRock K7S8X 50$
Duron 1,6 40$
SP-97 50$
92mm Tornado 10$
2x256 OCZ PC3200 Platinum 150$
Radeon 9800 Pro (OEM) 200$

Total 500$

We decided only to use 500$.

the mobo is an important part!! and the ram go with the mushkin for sure! and for 7 bucks go for the 1.8 duron!

You are going to pay very high amounts for ram like that, you may as well get something CH5 based if you are going AMD and save some money. The price/performance value will be higher, since that is what you are going for.

I say get the Infinity and some Kingston 3500.

Are you planing on unlocking the CPU? If not, keep the 1.6, the 1.8 has to high multi to get any good FSB. And as pointed before, the motherboard is very important. Since you are getting a Duron, and if you aren't planing on unlocking it I'd say an Infinity is overkill, you'll probadly have a hard time getting 220 with a locked Duron1600 on air so why not go for a NF7-S or a AN7?

Soulburner
02-13-2004, 01:23 PM
Don't ever, ever recommend the AN7...

Ever wonder why no one talks about it here?

keep what you have in mind, but switch to the infinity, if you pass your budget, take a old fan instead of the tornado

And dont take some OCZ for budget(bigtoe gonna kill me) theyre good, but too much expensive. go for the KHXPC3500

If i were you, i would get an old fan to free up some cash for something else like an NF7, with pc3500 ram, its pointless getting anything that cant use it to its full potential.

The SP-97 needs high fan pressure as the fins are so close together so try a large 120mm fan and use some cardboard to duct the air (also removes the dead spot in the center). This should make up for the lack of a tornado. I've dont this to both my server and gaming pc and it works great!

Abit IS7-E 82$
P4 2.4C+stock HSF 163$
2x256 HyperX PC3000 120$
Radeon 9800 Pro (OEM) 200$

Total 565$

I think its worth the extra 65$ or so ;)

Nice...and you could probably grab a few hundred more points with a better driver + DX combo too...Nature should be more like 170-172fps I think...:toast:

Thanks for all your reply's guys...

I decided to go for this:

Albatron PX865PE Pro 79$
P4 2,4C + stock cooler 159$
2*256 BH-5 125$
Radeon 9800 Pro 200$

Total 563$

The Albatron board is not the "Pro II"-version, but the vdimm is from 5v rail on this "Pro"-version also, right?

macci
02-14-2004, 08:30 AM
The albatron is not the fastest board out there (unless there latest bios versions have fixed certain things..).
Vdimm is from 5V rail thou and the mobo should take +300FSB without a problem.

KPJ
02-14-2004, 08:37 AM
Vcore is only 1,6v though, so I will have to do a vmod... But I'm doing to do a vdimm mod anyway. :)
I'm going for 1:1 (2-2-2-5) all the way... Should place me on top in the competition...
Also gonna do vmods on 9800 Pro of course... :)

How many 3DMarks in 01 do you think is possible?

LilGator
02-14-2004, 08:44 AM
just curious, where are you all getting 9800Pro's for $200 :P

Well could it be becouse no one has tested one recently? My AN7 is atleast 10 times better than my NF7-S so imo a AN7 is just as good a buy as a NF7.

And as far as I know the Infinity isn't that great for 3D, therefor a Abit for example would be better since it's faster in 3D.

LilGator

Yeah, lol, i knew about the sapphire at NewEgg ... $15 is a lot to leave off when you're taking about a $500 total setup :D

The Albatron board is not the "Pro II"-version, but the vdimm is from 5v rail on this "Pro"-version also, right? I dont know which one is cheaper, but you should take the IS7 or the P4P800 and only 256 BH5, theyres almost no diff(or no diff at all).

The PX865PE PRO is the slowest board ever but w/ 1200FSB. W/ the other board too you can get 1200FSB and w/ some speed:p:

No, no no.........do not lose the dual channel feature.....
