What do you think about Catalyst's 4.2?

Yes its that time, another Catalyst Release, this time Terry and the guys have version 4.2 up for grabs on www.ati.com im sure mirrors will be coming soon, but the ATI servers are fast so I doubt you will all have too much trouble getting them. To get the full info on the changes, fixes, improvements please read the full details at ATIs site but here is a little taster

since nvidia released the 53.03's i think ati has released 3 new drivers? nvidia so lazy, theres always improvements to be done.

nV is not lazy, their drivers are good from the first time :D

I swapped my 9800XT for a FX5950U, never looked back...

ATi said in advance they will release 12 a year (so one roughly every month)
nothing about bad or good...its mostly bugfixes for games and stuff

I'd take the XT over the nvidia card any day. straight forward, and the card does exactly what you tell it to do. The NV card can just wonder off and do what it likes sometimes...who's the boss here, me or the card?? meh

"The Release Notes claim between 5-10% increase in Aquamark with these new drivers. I will test tonight"

The XT _is_ faster, but I had some problems with Call Of Duty and NFSU etc with it (drivers after 3.7). CoD worked with 3.7, NFSU didn't really. This might not be ATi's fault, but for general ease, nothing beats the nV, never had problems with it whatsoever!

most games are built with nvidia graphics cards (probably quadro's)... i guess thats why theres less problems with them.

sigh, one thing about ATI drivers. they don't seem to improve performance, but IQ. I just installed ATI CAT 4.2 today, and ...

some good news.... some bad. :(

i just installed 4.2 CAT, and i got 10 pts decrease in Aquamark3.

ok, just did a quick run with 3d2k1 and got 500 pts increase with new ATI 4.2 driver set.

on my rig, compared to 3.9, cat4.2 gain on dragotic and nature, but lost a lot ont lobby/car high

on 3dmark 2k3 it will run better i think

Ok, just ran 3dmark03 build 440 with Cat 4.2. I had 3649 before with 2.4B, I just recently upgraded cpu to 2.8B. my score ---->

3,798 pts.

hmm, I lost like 400pts in 01SE going from the 3.7 omegas to the 4.2 omegas...

I couldn't even get the 4.2 Catys to run properly... (yea, deleted old driveres blah blah...)

I'm a fan of the manual deletion...

I got somethin weird though, I can install Omega's just fine but Caty's don't display ANY of the tabs in Display Properties...

Normally I'd reformant but I finally got all my little apps back on , you know, that little state of Zen where stuff actually works after a crazy bout with the OC monster... (not to say I slacked off...)

with the cat 4.1s my top 3d2001 score was 11,1XX - 112XX now with the new cat 4.2s i got 11,756...

pretty damn impressed :)
