View Full Version : Which will do best?
Which of the following CPU's will do best in 3DMark01?
AMD Barton 2500+ @ 2500MHz
or
Intel Pentium 4 2,4C @ 3600MHz
The videocard will be a 9800 Pro on both.
RAM will be runned at 240MHz 2-2-2-5 (Intel) or 240MHz 2-2-2-11 (AMD).
Which will do best?

Top score for P4 at 3.6ghz and a 9800 pro is macci's 9800se, 23350.
Not sure what the top is for the barton because the orb reports some a64's in the same category as aXP's.

Intel.

That can all depend on the motherboard as well, although I believe most boards that support a 2.4C will be better in the long run. Obviously, a Canterwood based board will be the best.

Even a springdale based P4C board will beat the best NF2 board under those conditions..

But still, the barton setup is very good for the money

I'd go with the P4, AMD locking their Barton chips isn't too great. Maybe get a mobile barton but they don't clock as high right?

The Intel is about ~2k ahead in 3DMark01.

Prolly not anymore with the infinity getting such high fsb...... in any case, the p4 would win..... im guessing around 1000pts or so.....

Well the highest on the ORB are around 250fsb or more so the records around 24k are already at high FSB...
On average though there is about 1000-2000 marks between AXP and P4C.

Soulburner is pretty close on the numbers. When I say P4, its not just an opinion based on forum facts, I have NF2/Barton, and P4C Canterwood and Springdale here. And strictly answering the question of original poster, no debate exists.
If the question was "whats better", then maybe a debate, but it wasn't, and there isn't...

yep, def. P4 in this case
Top p4 23350 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7371805
My barton 21883 http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7356716 core 510/378ish
And I know there are better benchers than me. So I would say less than 1000pts diff.
edit: and to answer the question still p4
edit: This is the top one that I can find under athlon 22181
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7418222
but bartons show up under durons sometimes too
