I'm using AMD setup as you can see in my signature ... I can bump my CPU @ 2700mhz @ 1,9V with the current setup - SLK800U with SmartFan 2 + 4 pcs SmartFan 2 on the case and the temps with 20C ambient are about 50C load with Prime 95 ... this temp is measured with temp diode placed to the CPU core.
I can push the CPU more but I'll need better cooling so please tell me which one is better - SLK-947U or SP-97 .. I will use 2x Vantec Tornado 92mm on the heatsink and 4x Smartfan 2 on case.

I can give you some results on the SP97 this weekend ! I already got one but I cant test it yet because my bios is dead and will have to be reflashed....Im going to test it on the following cpu's :
Duron 1400 MIXIB
Athlon xp 1700 JIUHB

sp-97 performs better than the 947 according to all the sites I readed.

I don't trust so much to the reviews. Thats why I need somebody who has them both to tell me which one is better under similar conditions.

SP-97 is what you want, but I'll also be able to give you results tomorrow/this weekend. My motherboard should be ariving tomorrow, I'll be using at 2500+ with the SP-97, and maybe a Tbred 2400+.

The SP97 is a bit better! As you can see in my Sig I have both and they both perform exceptionally well, but the SP97 is tad better than the SLK947-U ;)

how does the SP-97 compare to the newer SLK948-U ?

i have owned both an sp series hs and the newer slk-948, i found installation a little trickier with the sp, the screws were sometimes a little pain to get to with the heatpipes sitting there. the slk series i like on intel setups, on amd setups, the sp is great and does outperform the 947

I have a ThermaRight SP97 with a PAPST 92mm 3412 n/2gl fan (it puts 61 CFM at 1950RPM and 23dB) and my temp was never over 48 celsius (Barton 2500 @ 3200)

will be the same if i use this heatsink with a Tornado 92mm 4800rpm or a Tornado 80mm 5700rpm.. should be the same?

no, the 92mm tornado pushes more air, so it should cool better.

dBA is a logarithmic rating system.

56dBA is actually 10 times louder than 46dBA. your ears won't hear it that way though. it WILL be noticeably louder though.

i had a 92mm tornado, ran it at 7v, and it was still too loud for me.

but hey, some people don't mind the noise. i'd just prefer a silent computer.

but 119 CFM souds good,i am looking for somting in that class just for ocing purposes(my level of tolerance for fans over 30 dba isn't high)

i'm happy owner of that SP-97 baby and it's just the best cooler i've ever had... i have 92mm tornado on it... it's loud but not unbearable...
i wonder what performance hit would that get if only sth like that (http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/delffb1212eh.html) :slobber: can be attached to it... kinda considering it just to see how it works together...

I'm happy with my slk-947 and even with a 92mm zalman sucking the air from the cpu my temps are relatively cool. see my sig.

Run a tornado on 5v, it will still be alot powerfuller than alot of fans and you wil hardly hear it, I have two 80's going at 5v which because they are lower have a higher pitch and I cannot hardly hear them.

What voltages are you guys abusing your processors with to require a 92mm tornado on a SP-97? lol

I've got a SP-97 with a 92mm 2500 rpm thermaltake and my mobile barton never gets over 50c full load with 2.05 volts!

Have you guys considered ducting the cooler room air directly to your HSFs? It lowered my temps approx. 10C and lowered my overall case temps too. I haven't exceeded 40C (loaded) since I completed it. Just a suggestion...
Enjoy!

@ Happy Joe
where did you get that duct??? is there a online store that sells those???

Its a series of 3 Tt ducting mods with a home made adaptor to the heatsink. It works because I have an extra wide case. Its an old pic I had. Try ducting though, its cured me from needing water, and allows pretty good overclocks.
Sorry... Didn't mean to highjack the thread.
Enjoy!
