There is this Norwegian web site that has tested an retail 2.8E.

Here is the link: http://hardware.no/art.php?artikkelid=5280&side=3

I can translate a little in what they are writing. But you will understand the most of it just out of the pictures.

What they say is that they have no problems reaching 3,8GHz with this CPU. The CPU was ofcourse HOT on this frequenz, but that probebly wasn't what stopped them in going any further. It's not the chip that does it, but it is the motherboard. They used active cooling on the Mosfet and on the condesators, but that didn't seem to help much. When they reached 3.8GHz the volt dropped like a rock! This is on the Abit IC7-MAX3, using stock P4E cooler.

That tells them two things:

1. Overclockers will have to whait untill socket T is out, to take advantage of Prescott's potensial.

2. Intel has to find out something to do with the heat, the heat problem MUST be solved , unless they find out some revolutionary cooling for the P4E's.

Tedinde has one....
and wasn't awfully impressed. Says it ran like a ball of fire, and fairly slow. I'm waiting for the 17 multi 3.4E before I play with one. Just a thought, maybe they delayed the 3.4 because the yields are SOOO crappy that they can't bin enuff 3.4E's!!!!

thats more or less what ottellini said indirectly... they are fixing the dothan first and will deal with the prescott yield probs after that.

isnt it funny that prescott needs more power than a P4EE
everybody who tried a prescott is whining about smoking mosfets ^^

I doubt it will matter but I'm pretty sure Tedinde's is an OEM, don't think anyone has retails yet.... Might be wrong though...

Im 3dmarking @ 3.7ghz and it's been Folding all weekend at that speed, Yes it's hot. But it's not crashing because of it.

I have it in my head that High temps in my Vapo as in 25+ celsius under full load is too hot. But the chip is stable.

I can run @ 3.8ghz or a 1000mhz OC, which is respectable. But i would not get that on air.

But the chip is slower clock for clock than my northwood benchies at the same speed.

All i can hope for is this is one of the Hot cores that intel first made. and they will get cooler. Bad luck for me i agree , but i can sell it @ stock in a customers computer.

I love prescott for driving P4 prices down finally. I'll order a 3.2 retail when i can and give it another shot.

I've not had a lot of time this weekend to mess with it.

I've taken it up to 1.6v and booted to windows @ 4ghz, but couldnt do anything, and it was like i wasnt even using a Vapo. Seemed like normal Temps for a Intel Heatsink on a stock P4 2.8!!!.

Intel knows they need to do something. And hopefully soon.

wow someone should be able to calculate the amount that it would take to bring a vapo to +25c, im guessing a fair amount over 100

im waiting for charlie to put this baby under dry ice, maybe that can handle the heat

the best one ive seen was the guy in a heat protection suite working on some melt metal stuff saying: intel denies rumors about prescotts heat problems :D
