You CANT know if some KHX PC3500 will be CH5 or BH5 before you look under the heatspreaders

that kinda sucks cause right now i have a stick of hyperx pc4000 and pc3500 the 4000 cant do anything but cas2.5 @ 226 fsb with the pc3500 but the pc3500 runs 2-2-2-5 @ 240 all day. so when i mix them they can only run at 227 in dual chan @ 2.5-3-3-7. I need a matching stick for the 3500 .

4000 is hynix ...very crappy chips for LL.
you can look for khx3500 in local shops and ask them when they got the stick... just get any 2-2-2 3000 or 3500 memory. should be bh5 or bh6, no big diference there...

sounds good cause i bought both at a local best buy. my pc4000 is gonna go in my linux box anyway so i dont need to OC it for any reason. I just want the ll on my main box.

Actually HyperX Pc4000 is Samsung...even worse.
You better avoid Pc3500. They will never be rated 2/6/2/2 from Kingston and you'll never know what you'll get. Find any RAM between Pc3000 and Pc3500 from any brand rated 2/6/2/2 as suggested, those should be BH-5/6. The Kingston HyperX Pc3000 (BH-6) are lovely usually.

Actually the other way around.:p: Most Pc3000 Kingston is BH-6, I HEARD of BH-5 and never encountered them myself. Not even in the new I just got for myself.
....which is not a bad thing at all.
These have great value. Do pick them up.

Hey skate can you point me to this thread with 20 people saying they can do tRCD 2. The one you used to conclude all or most new CH5 can do this. Thanks.
:toast:
edit: whoops you said that bit in one of the other million winbond threads. lol. Ah well, same request please.

i just checked my khx 3500 256mb stick and its rated for 2.5v!!! didnt some people say only the 2.6v rated sticks are bh5?
so i have a lucky stick with super ch5 that runs 2-2-2 at DDR500 with 3.5v or is it bh5?

I've seen both Pc3200 and Pc3500 HyperX rated at 2.5v and 2.6v and still carrying BH-5 chips. The voltage rating has nothing to do with it, just some production lines had 2.6v rating at first and then it dropped to 2.5v. Marketing.

Any ideas when Kingston might have used BH5 on the 3000? O_o I've yet to tell the difference in performance between the BH5 and BH6... BH5 tends to need less voltage to get higher right?
These 3000 sticks say 2.5v stock but were BH6 supposed to use 2.5v standard or did BH5 start doing that? Maybe I should give winbond a call and ask...
BH5 had an access time of 5ns right? BH6 = 6ns? *looking at spd rating reported by chips*

There is a 99% chance that it WON'T be bh-5.

Don't harm your mind like that.
At lower voltages, BH-5 can do a little better than BH-6 at the same timings. At high voltages (3.1v and up) most BH-6 stretch more than BH-5, outrunning them. That's why I consider BH-6 better, BH-6 were always faster for me.

My BH-6's are doing 236 2-2-2-5-1T at 3.1v right now... :D
I bet they would go farther, too, but I start having stability issues at 238, which I think is the NB as I get no-post at 242 and timings dont affect these points.

Well, all BH-6 modules are mostly the same, that is they depend on luck.
Considering that the Mushkin PC3200 -Special edition- modules with BH-6 I just got are pure pain (I'll show you what I mean some day) I would surely suggest them if you want quality RAM.

You could always get the 1gig dualie Mushkin LV2's at newegg for 328usd and save the kingston when you upgrade to a A64 system since they don't use dual channel except for opterons and FX's. Mushkings runs 2-2-2-5 very easily. Gauranteed BH-5's but are almost sold out so hurry- prices are jumping up like crazy in the last 2 weeks.

all 939 cpus will be dual channel, even the normal a64s ;)
