View Full Version : Why is 21k being such a PITA?

Well, I'm getting 20.5k on a constant rate now...

I've tried using the blackviper xtreme config (running it now...).... no change

I've tried pushing my GPU a little past its 100% no artifact limits (455 is no artis, I'm using 460).... no effect

I'm a little lost; if anyone has any little tweaks I've overlooked;

WinXP Pro fresh install (I know 2k is better but not an option)
Barton 2500+ @ 220 x 11.5 (2.5ghz)
Radeon 9800 Pro @ 460 / 790
CorsairXMS 2 x 256mb @ 440mhz 2-3-3-11

I'm running the Omega 4.1 drivers for the GPU (tried the 3.7's too and I think they were a little better)... like I said the black viper xtreme config, I don't run AV software and I turn of MBM5 and F@H. I also have Rage3D tweak; using the 2k1 theme.

Anything else I can do besides push my OC's?

it's gettin late here; I'll try the 3.2's tomorrow but unless its possible to un-install DirectX then I'm stuck with 9.0b

Yeah it is pretty much impossible to uninstall directx and is not reccommended. The 3.x modded cats ought to do you well especially since you were benching with the omegas (great drivers for IQ and gaming but hinders benchmarking). Also play with some of the driver settings (ie performance for everything; lod and other goodies with rage3d). Also tighten those timings down to 2-2-2-11 and see if you can't go with 11x on the multiplier; 3dmark 2k1 loves the bandwith so even if you take a slight hit on the clocks you'll end up with a higher bench. If you want as close to Win2k scores on WinXp, try disabling almost all of the services including themes as it will free up memory for benching. People also say disabling apic yields better clocks though I wouldn't suggest doing so unless you have already done it. Good luck with 21k... should be easily doable.

uninstalling directx is easy, u can get the app of guru3d. but its not recommended if your goal is to increase performance, ur better formatting and doing a fresh install.

I'm running a very similar system, but I'm using Win2k and Cat 3.1. DX9 actually works a little better for me. In WinXP, I barely cross 20k, so you're definitely doing a lot better than me.

You guys have any other suggestions?
