Ok I'm still wondering as to why AMD and m/b manufactuer's are still using only 3x dimm slots? As we all well know by now P4's use quad pumped FSB. So when AMD moved to the 64bit platform and started using onboard mem controller how come they didn't start using 4x dimm slots? Wouldn't that boost performance even more?

Or is the quad pumped technology patented by intel or something?

Another question is related to that of the 1600mhz FSB speed that the chip is capable of running, is it even possible to reach that with todays motherboard only running 3x dimms? doesn't seem to add up to me.

I apologize to anyone if this thread is just flat out retarded, because I have been wondering about this for quite some time and was driving myself crazy not being able to come up with an answer.

Thx again m8's! :toast:

At the moment, A64s can only support upto 2 Dimms at DDR 400, if you use 3 Dimms the speed automatically drops to DDR 333. This isn't an ideal situation but it certainly isnt disasterous. What we should bear in mind with these new kick-ass 64 bit chips is that we are currently looking at the Durons of the future and as 64 bit processing develops, I'm sure we will begin to see support for more Dimms.

Besides, using too many dimms harms overclocking potential! I'm also quite sure that the majority of users out there are using 2 Dimms or less in their present setups anyway.
