Hi, I'm currently browsing these forums trying to gather information for an Athlon 64 setup before I go spending my money. The question I have is regarding the Dual Channel kit of 2 x 512MB OCZ EL 3500 that I already run in my current AMD rig.

Are there any motherboards that have problems running this memory? Or alternativley, which A64 motherboards do not have a problem running a gigabyte of this kind of memory? I've not had the memory very long so I am reluctant to sell it. I'd be interested in a mobo that offers high Vdimm voltages out of the box, as this memory like's plenty of voltage when overclocking.

As I point of interest, I also own a 9800pro, I suppose this means I should be looking at an NF3 board, or will a Via one be suitable? I'll be overclocking on Airconditioned air which allows my current XP2800 to go as high as 2.6Ghz at 2 volts, so hopefully one of you former 32 bit AMD owners should be able to give me some kind of indication what to expect.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! :)

As the memory controller is on the Athlon 64 chip itself and not on the motherboard, there should not be serious compatibility differences.

However, as the OCZ PC3500 EL Platinum LE (I assum you mean that model) is based on BH-5 chips, you want to be looking at a board that offers high Vdimm or an easy Vdimm voltage mod, if you are into such thing.

Shuttle AN50R seems to be quite popular in this regards. 2.9V by default and relatively easy Vdimm voltage mod up to 3.5V.

If you really want to overclock, I sersiously suggest you consider nf3 boards over Via at this point for maximum overclocking (various reasons).

No, I meant OCZ EL 3500. Look at the second item from the bottom on the page I've linked to. That's what i've got.

Good point about the memory contoller being on board, but it does not remove the fact that certain A64 mobos seem to have issues with certain brands of memory. It would be nice if i could find out that the memory I already own is compatible with a motherboard before I go forking out for one and supported memory lists at the moment seem a bit thin on the ground or sketchy. Can anyone help?

I'll have some OCZ PC3200 EL by mid next week so I'll let you know :)

Thanks Sov, if it works for you, I'll then know what mobo to go for too :)

Edit: Are you getting a Gig of ram btw?

Yeah 2x512.

I have 2x512 KHX3000 that wont run 200 regardless of timings/voltage on this mobo but did 220 on my AN7 2-2-2-5 (2.9v).

I also have 2x512 Corsair XMS3200 Pro that wont run 200.

I'm hoping this OCZ will work.

Yeah, I like my OCZ Ram, it'd hit 233fsb on my (dead) NF7-s (CPU interface on), but it liked plenty of voltage (About 3.1-2Volts) to run tight. If I could get this kind of performance out of it on an A64 setup I'd be more than happy. ATM it wont go beyond 226 without stability problems because my current Eposh 8RDA3+ has horrible low voltage rails.

I just need a gig of anything 2-3-2-6 or better that'll run stable :(

No room for CPU o/c with the cooling in this shuttle.

Well, I hope it works out for you Sov. Can you let me know what you find out either here or by PM, I'd be very interested and grateful. When did you ditch your 32bit AMD set-up anyway? I've not seen or spoken to you for a while.

Oh hi gaz :)

Just got this setup maybe a week and a half ago.

I'll PM you when the OCZ gets here (probably wednesday) and let you know.
