Yepp, im back, but not with any kind of Xtreme cooling yet...
Just some Air cooled 3200+AN50r...
My goodie ASUS 9480TVD, its just now running low 378/783 about 1.92 on GPU noting on mem, even Zinks:slobber: (it does 393 with cooled water, maybe som Dice or 226w)
Im planing to take 18500 with no klock on CPU, just now im @18160...then...:D im coming for ya MM;)

Damn that's some really nice scores, considering that you havent clocked the cpu yet....my bet is that you're definately heading for the top ! :)

I'm with ya Gabbax:D
These Asus cards are clockers, you should be able to get 425 on the core with good cooling. I've got a stock MachII strapped on mine and am running 425Mhz consistantly @ 1.95v.
I modded the memory but only gained about 20Mhz going from 2.81v to 3.3v. I don't have sinks on theram either.
Have fun, look foward to pushing the envelope of the Ti4200 class with you:)

Glad gabbax is having another bo. Wonder if Mike will join in the fun again as well ?
Who should I silently support ? Tough one, but I guess I'll back the team captain to come out top :)

Catching up to Jason it looks like...
All I can say is, don't stop now!

I would jump in on the race - only after a bad rmaing accident my Ti4800SE got turned into an FX5600 non ultra. So i am stuck with my sub 20K score - which could have been a 20K or more with the new motherboard :( Oh well if i can pick up 9480 cheap i may rejoin the race

my god! congras for another 20k ti4200 score! 378/783 just on water? does that thing even have bga ram? and whats the difference between the asus v8420 and 9480TVD? mine does 330/700 unmodded, air cooled with TT heatsink. are the method to v mod the same between the two? I need the right v mods and fixed resistors for mine, anyone know?

The 8420S is a Ti4600 PCB with 3.3ns bga ram(Entrontech), Ti4200 core which runs at 4x AGP.
The 9480TVD is a Ti4600 PCB with a slightly different component layout, different voltage regulators, BGA ram(3.3ns Samsung), Ti4200 core which runs at 8x AGP.
The voltage mods for either type can be found by doing a search in the Graphics volt mod section.:)

That means my asus v8420 should have the SC1102CS and SC1175CSW chips. I would need to remove the card from my pc and I will do so in a few. also the guide explains to use 1k ohm for the gpu and 720 ohms for the memory, thats all theres to it? Sorry if my questions sound dumb, im new to this and better to learn about it fully before jumping. thanks for your time :)

Randi:D Na, thats not the truth mr:Randi;) my Card, the 9480TVD, use "only" Samsung 3.6ns mems... and it god for 783 no mods or Zinks...to bad, u are not her;) u could helpt me to fix that mem, mod:p: (to tiny legs on the chip:()

Gabbax:)
The Asus 9480TVD I'm benching with right now has 3.3ns Samsung. So I guess they make the same card with different speed ram:)
This ram ran very well also without voltage mods, 780Mhz+. Mod only gained about 20Mhz.
You don't have to solder to the legs of the memory voltage regulator, follow Pin 10's trace over to the smd resistor and solder on it's side, to the pad. Other end of VR just gets soldered to a ground....or Pin1 of the regulator. I used a 10K VR set to 10K which yields 3.3v.

MrIcee, don't you want some ramsinks on those at 3.3V?
seems like they'd be rather.....warm.

whats stock voltage for your ram? the volt mod guide you gave me says it should be 2.83 how high should I push my ram max? 3.1? 3.3v? I got tweakmonsters

tweakmonsters only gained me 10MHz but I need to mod though. I will mod once my new ram comes and see my modding post, I still have questions

I have a 92mm Vantec Tornado blowing cool air down both sides of the card, it seems to do the trick.:) Also, with the MachII clamped to the core, it seems to keep the entire card a bit cooler.
Stock voltage was 2.81v on my card also.
I can run the ram up to bout 805Mhz, over that it will break into total artifacting with a major effect on scores going down. I have tried more voltage but it didn't matter.
I have a couple sets of Tweakmonsters and may install them at some point, but I can't imagine gaining another 10Mhz.

Mine gained 10mhz (20mhz effective) with the use of OCZ Copper BGA Ramsinks.
But thats on some hot Hynix chips running from 965 to 985mhz.

The most that I have gotten out of my ASUS V9480TVD is about 351/729 with simple air cooling. I have done the volt mods on the card, but I am afraid to crank up the voltage too far without better cooling. I also need a better overclocking CPU. Mine seems to max out at around 3.67 GHz, even with my new water cooling setup.
Good luck to everyone. I'm glad to see the action pick up again in the Ti4200 class.

The 2.8ns samsung mem on my 4600 tops out at around 720. Shouldn't they do more, considering some samsung 3.3's are hitting 780+ w/o mods or sinks?

1.81 volts stock? I thought ti4600s came at 1.66v stock on the core! guess I better measure core/ram voltage just to be sure, can you damage the card measuring its voltages? also where should I measure mine? somewhere on the back I suppose
Soulburner
01-31-2004, 10:55 PM
1.8v sounds correct to me for .15u
Same as R3xx
Geforce4ti4200
02-01-2004, 12:37 AM
why does the guide say 1.66 volts? if this guide is wrong, I will fry my card using that! where can I measure what voltage i get? maybe its already high

Geforce4ti4200 :)
You should always check voltages prior to the voltage mods, and during adjustment of the mods if you use VR's. The easiest place to measure output on Core and memory are the + side of the capacitor legs sticking thru the PCB next to the voltage regulators.
Have the ground lead attached to the case or place deemed a good ground away from the card. Use the positive lead only to probe and check voltages of the + sides of the caps nearest the voltage regulators.

Just w8Ã:banana:ng for some Nice DICE to come:) , and the # 1 spot wont be so hard to catch..;)
My new 9480TVD does 357/803 Air cooled, just v-MEM mod@3.35 Stock on GPU no mods.
The good thing, is this mem can do 836 in 3DMark, ofcourse with some FPS drop, but with some - deg i hope for 820...

The GF4 chip seems to have matured nicely over the years, 300-310 was good stock when they came out, now 330-350 seems a good stock speed.
Good luck !

thats a very, very nice overclock air cooled without mods. with a prometeia and mods, we could be looking at 400-420 core and 820-840 ram with tweakmonsters and something chilling the ram further. socket 939 should come soon, that mobo paired with the fx53 at 2.8+ GHz could net ya like 23k :D nice to see more ti4200 action, oh and you could dominate 16k on a ti500 ;)

yea, the core did get better. a3 steppings will do 300MHz half the time too stock. with mods and high end cooling, expect 20-30MHz gain. mine does 330 stock, 340 vmodded but my cooling is only midrange. I havent the money nor time to bother for another 10-15MHz more and im done with 3dmark, just a spectator now :)
