Hey guys,
1 final question -
Is it worth risking getting 2x256 Corsair 3200LLPT ram, and maybe not getting uber-bh-5 stuff, or just getting 512mb xms4000 pro, that does 250 fsb for sure?
please reccomend any ram for a64 system from www.overclockers.co.uk catalogue, can only order from them (long story :) )
Thanks! :D
BH5 is the way to go.... Cant you get some Mushkin LVL 2?

I can, but is it REALLY worth it?
I mean, how much difference does ddr500 @ 2-2-2-5 and 3 volts with ddr500 @ 3-4-4-8 and 2.6 volts ? Apart from the hassle for the first.

Dont make me hurt you man, DONT PUSH ME THERE! :P
Hehe, I'll save myself about 30 GBP on this stuff.
What kinda FSB can I hit, with 2.9v? (maximum on k8v i heard from soemone) with 2-2-2-6.

That would depend on how well you trust a Reseller like Overclockers UK's wording. Corsair rates their XMS 3200 LL for 2-3-2-6 operation, and have been shipping Winbond CH-5 chips with it for well over 6 months now. If one believes that Overclockers UK is selling old-stock Corsair that happens to have Winbond BH-5 chips and only Winbond BH-5 chips, then one would feel free to purchase it. But in all likelihood, it isn't going to do what they rate it.

So I'm better off with the mushkin for first choice im feeling..
2nd choice that stuff(corsair), 3rd choice some EL Ocz stuff.
Jason will have a good reply tho :)
Guys your hypeing this BH5 thing way to much and your going to force second hand prices thru the roof...
If your looking to buy new ram there are lots of alternatives now and the ONLY thing they MAY not do is run TRCD at 2.While this will effect speed a slight amount it will not make any noticable difference to games and apps you run thats worth bothering about..Trust me..i test a huge amount of ram and boards ;)
New CH5 does seem to be getting better and clocking quite high..boards are getting better also which allows the ram to clock higher also.
Remember its you guys who are pushing prices up by causing this buying frenzy.Have a look back if you can and see how much BH5 modules were 12months ago and compare against today...

I agree with ya bigtoe. I just wish that ch-5 scaled with added voltage like bh-5/6 does.

come on man that's just a bit BEYOND extreme dude :)
2.9ghz A64? The default clock is 2ghz for gods sake :D
Thats NOT with the stock cooler :P or any air cooler.
Anyway, first choice mushkin level 2, 2 x 256mb, 2nd choice risk corsair or ocz el? :O

not really true, mushkin has some bh-6 they're selling as 3200 now at 2-2-2-6 since it's "hand picked" to do those speeds... and it's not bad stuff either, could do some serious FSB with enough vdimm. as for the pc4000, that's 100% true, i put some OCZ 4200 in here and couldn't break 24k even at 270 1:1.

YEP!
I've been watching the prices climb on the BH5 RAMs for a couple weeks now.
Did a search for OCZ's Limited Edition PC3500 Platinum the other day. Found 3 sites that still had some, all in Canada, lowest price was like $276.00 Canadian. And this was for the 2 X 256 kits, that's around 210 USD I think, that's a lot.
In a strange way Bigtoe I'd say OCZ should be proud that it's Platinum PC3500 Limited Edition is so highly regarded. I don't see Corsair's v 1.1 selling for nearly so much.
Will be interesting to see how high the Kingston Hyper X and the Lvl 2 PC3500 Mushkin goes for 2-3 weeks from now, after its (BH5) gone from all retail sites.

Regarding the original thread straters question.
I'd say head over to your sites still having the BH5's RAM and buy 2 X 256 or more, look at it this way, if you don''t like it's performance you can recoup your paid price in full. You won't be able to do that with any other RAM on the market.;)
You can try the BH5 risk free, but you can't do it the other way around.:D

I don't think timings affect real time performace in windows by that much , espesially in games.
Did you read the latest test about timings on THG??? The diff is real small. So i think it will be a better idea to get pc4000-4400 to be gurananteed those speeds rather risking vmoding the boards. My opinon, thats all.
