The biggest problem with running a -80c computer freezer, is that it takes a cascade technician to run it. This system will be the the first cascade system that will run through its cycle completely on its own.
I used the same model 1 hp copelands that i used on ops system. i put 404a in the first stage. In the second i put 290, 170, and 95.
on the first test run under no load it got as cold as -91c. and under heavy load, lost only 4 degrees. For a running full load temp of -87c.
anyways heres some pics

youll find this interesting gary, its a cpr valve that feeds 2 42in lengthes of .026
I insulated the cap tube seperatly. the only sub cooling that ocurrs is th2nd stage high side before the interstage has about 2 inches sodered to the suction. it does sem to help with the head pressure.

Beautiful job Captain. My cascade will also be user-friendly. Flip the switch and it works, that idea.

Yes, that is interesting. Are you using a discharge/suction heat exchanger, as well?
Both cap tubes are short enough that they are acting more as distributor tubes than cap tubes.
I would love to see a piping diagram, and a full set of temperatures and pressures for both stages.

I'll get you that as soon as i can. im still finishing wirring on this system.
I think i will have the autocascade going by next week.
For those of you that are atempting the autocascade or might be thinking of doing so. I have decided to found a support group for people whos autocascades won't work. If you dont think this is a problem in America, you need to open your eyes!

how large is that unit ?? pics with a tape ?? #1 on 3Dmark2003 = ?? Cost est?? temps??
very sweet looking
captaincascade
02-15-2004, 02:41 PM
maybe thisll give you a better idea of the size.
as for the price you'll have to ask the person who contracted me to build it. If he ever decides to how himself.
temps are around -80c loaded. the warmest we ever saw the gpu or cpu temps was -78c
captaincascade
02-15-2004, 02:47 PM
we scored 9800 points on 3d 2003
excuse the temp displays looking kinda turned. at this time the temp displays are moveable so you can set them where you can see them.

This unit is deffinitly sweat. Turn the key and she's good to go. All tuned and userfriendly. Nice size, looks great, on wheels, not loud, and cold. Temps at idle where around -84c gpu and -80c CPU. Under load they both did about -77c.
I want one:D

Has anyone deemed it necessary to employ a normally closed solenoid valve, in order vent high side pressure to the low side upon de-activation (power-down) of the machine? Or is the equalization through the cap tube considered adequate?
captaincascade
02-16-2004, 11:34 AM
its fine as long as your not short cycling it

Excellent Job! Congrats on the scores in 3D03 and in 3d01! :toast: I know CC built a World class benching rig and I'm :slobber: over it, but, you got some talent yourself, and deserve the credit for the scorces that you produced!
Again.... :toast:
btw, would you consider removing that lowly 29,7++ scorce you have in 3D01, so I can get back up ( by one ) without doing anything! ;)

Thank you, you just let someone move back onto page 1... :D
btw, I cann't believe you let me slide on calling your 29,7++ score " lowly" , I'd love to have benched that high a score! :)
Congrats, again!
