View Full Version : Benchmark programs not running on P4??

I'm running a suite of benchmarks to compare my brother's P4-2.4C+Abit IS7-E+GFFX5200 with my own T-bird 1497MHz+Abit KD7-RAID+GF3 Classic(overclocked).

But there's two programs that just won't run on the P4 and I've tried them without luck on other P4 systems as well...

It's 3DMark2000 V1.1 and Vulpine GLMark V1.1.

Anyone that knows how to get them running on the P4???

Are there any other good OpenGL benchmarks I can download and bench with?

Vulpine should bench fine as I have used it on my P4!!!

Any errors??

No error messages, just crashes to desktop.

When you click to start 3DMark2000 you just see the timeglass next to the pointer for a while and then nothing.
But it puts itself as a process in the background taking up 50% CPU power...

Are you using the latest version?

try 3dmark 2001? and also your o/ced geforce 3 would own his fx5200 the 2.4c should make up for it though

As far as I know V1.1 is the last version of 3DMark2000.

2001 is working fine but I'd like to compare with 2000 as well... :(

Even with the 2.4C overclocked to 3.0GHz it still lags way behind my GF3!

3DMark2001SE with the same detonators gives the following:

P4-2.4C @ 3007.1MHz and GFFX5200 128MB @ 125/165: 4767 3Dmarks

T-bird 1333 @ 1497.4MHz and GF3 64MB @ 245/530: 8071

But later today I'm gonna put the GF3 in the P4 system and see what it'll do!

Is there something wrong with that fx5200? Looking around even the cheapest 5200 has stock clocks of 250/166x2.

I'm using Powerstrip 3.01 build 190 to check the speeds of the vid card.
Could it be that it should say 250/333 instead?

250/333 is what the lowest-end 5200's run at.

Hamilton, I applaud your use of 3DMark2000. It really should also be used to check the stability of an overclock. I have seen some overclocks pass 3DMark2001 and 2003 but fail 2000. When I run Win98SE, I don't consider a rig stable unless it passes all three.

Note the hint! I posed the same question on another forum and the answer is 3DMark2000 doesn't work in XP. Someone said it won't work with HT on either. I tried disabling it in the BIOS in XP but no dice.

I have an old version so not sure if the later versions work. If anybody has a link to a version of 3dMark2000 that works in XP please post it.

BTW, I am using an old version of VulpineGL and it works fine in XP. It's one of my stress tests for 3D stability on an overclock. It tends to fail too. I run it at 1600x1200x32, 4xFSAA and 16XAniso.

2000 works fine in XP on my T-bird machine!
But it just won't run on any P4-system I've tried...

Do you still have the install file for that version of VGL?

Hmmm, never tried XP on my AMD rig when I had it up. Does indeed sound like an HT issue with XP.

Yes, I still have the Vulpine file but I think it is pretty big. Have to check at home.

Out of curiosity I tried 3DMark2000 v1.1 on my system and the same thing occured. The hour glass comes up then goes away after a few seconds and then I watched my temps rise by 5c in a few seconds and checked my cpu usage and it teatered between 49-50%. I disabled HT in BIOS but no go.

I just downloaded the latest version 1.1 and was going to try it but guess it's not worth it.

If you do a ctrl+alt+del and look under 'Processes' it is seen as running. You can turn it off there.

I believe the problem only occurs with the 800 fsb CPUs or SD/CW chipset; don't recall the problem in XP with my 845PE boards.
