When did Intel stop sending Heatsinks
with their Northwood retail CPU's?

Now I see, NewEgg screwed up and sent us
the OEM instead of the Retail.
Now we have to wait until this is cleared up before
we can get my friend's new rig together.
...... Nice one NewEgg! :upset:

Why do I have all the bad luck? That's 3 of the last
5 orders that they flubbed up now.
:grr:

Sorry to hear newegg is messing up your orders. Overall the are a great etailer. Do you really need the stock heatsink?

Id just say keep it, but that retail warranty is killer. Im in delaware if you needed a factory one for free, I must have 20 of them here!!!! In Newark right off I95 unless your on the other side of MD.

I have over 250 orders from newegg in my history and over $30k spent and never a mess up. Strange!!!

The heatsink on the 3.0C is somewhat valuable since it has the copper insert. On the 'B' chips, it is only used on the flagship 3.06B. If I ever have to use a stock heatsink, that is the one.

Well, my buddy couldn't wait so we drove down to
the local CompUSA  and bought the only
Socket 478 sink they had. It didn't have the Copper
insert but I did take the time to lapp it to a near perfect
mirror and use my favorite Shin Etsu X23 paste. :D
I was actually shocked at how dished the bottom was.

Diode temps were 52c under load which doesn't seem
too bad. Especially when you consider that the X23 usually
drops a few degrees after a few days of "curing".

I was wondering, ... if the X23 drops about 3c after a few days
on my AMD which has a significantly smaller contact area.
Would there likely to be a more signicant
drop with the P4 since it has a much larger footprint?
