View Full Version : Problems with A64 and AN50R: Please Help
Just got my 3000+ and AN50R. Downloaded the newest BIOS, installed all the drivers, and I can't even overclock to 2100mhz without 3DMark failing. I'm using 2x512mb HyperX 3500 and a seagate barracuda 120gb. I'm new to A64 so I'm hoping that I'm overlooking something basic. Any ideas?

try lowering your ldt to 2.5x....
THanks, I'll try that right now.
Well, that made it a bit more stable, but moving my memory from slots 1 and 3, to 1 and 2, seems to have done the trick. I had read that someone had better results with 1 and 3 so that's where I started them. Now to see how high it will go...
ok. Now I've gotten it up to 2250mhz, but anything higher, and when it posts it says "System is in safe mode. Please reset cpu frequency in BIOS" or something similar. If I let it boot it defaults everything back to stock settings. Anyone know why this happens?
Which memory do you have. I've KHX3200K and I can only use CL2. Everything else won't boot.

That board seems to have problems with some BH ram. Some work well and others just dont so you might want to test it with some other sticks too.
I'm pretty sure I have the newer CH5 HyperX. It's spec'ed at 2.6 and I think the BH-5 is 2.5. Anyone know for sure? Anyway, this automatic safe mode is frustrating. Help?

Dude.....lose the 512 sticks. For the life of me, I couldn't get my 512 sticks lv2 black to run at anything higher then 230fsb at ANY timings on same setup (an50r 3400+).
I ordered some 256 sticks and BAM....IM sitting here at 245fsb1:1 5-2-2-2 at only 3.05v(dimm mod) IM getting 23k now on stock clocked and cooled XT.....and there is SOOO much more to go still.

Another tip that should help is that when I set the dimm volts to anything higher than 2.7 at FSB higher than stock, the damn Over volt protection would shut the board off. DO the dimm mod and leave your ram voltage at "auto" in the bios, then crank it up with the vr to get you where you want. Ive tested up to 3.4v and it works. Might just be my POS boards...but I have 2 here that exhibit the same behavior.
Took your advice and did the Vdimm mod and cranked it to 3.2. I haven't done much testing, but everything appears to be stable up to about 2300mhz with 1.7V. Anthing higher and it just won't work. Trying to set it higher with clockgen causes a shutdown. I figured it was the memory and put it on the 5:6 ratio, and tried it with only one stick, but it still won't go any higher. Right now I have it at 220 with 1.525V and it idles around 35C. With 1.7 it's up at 57C under stress.
I'm pretty happy with it, but I'm tempted to pick up an A64 waterblock. I have a Maze3 for my XP that doesn't look like it would fit. Do you think I could realize a reasonable increase?
