which one is more cost effect and price performance ratio say I'd be upgrading in Q2/04?

considering good rams required for p4s to achieve high fsbs and amd using my current bh5s.

i did some calculation NOW and seems like the 2.4c is still a better buy but 3-6 months down the road, things might differ.

This is not a flame bait but just need some comments from intel users.

Thanks :p:

depends on what you are going to be using it for...

games - a64
media encoding - p4

i havent made the switch to a64 yet because i use my pc mainly for music production but i do have a 9800 pro to compensate for games

I aggrey with gokickrocks, if you are playing games then you want the A64, if you are encoding then the p4 will serve you better. Also, bare in minde that 939pin A64s and Prescottmay shake things up a bit in there near future.
Personaly, my money is on the A64s for now, atleast till i see what intels new baby has to offer.

your hard drive plays a bigger role then the cpu. as for loading, i use to load faster on my NF7-S and barton 3200+ then my friend loaded on his intel pentium 4 3.0C processor... because my harddrive is faster then his..

My HTPC is a celeron 2.2 @ 3.3. Somehow it will outdo my 2.5ghz amd rig using DVD shrink witch i love so much for "backing" up my DVD's.

This and using TMPG for DIVX to MPEG2 for downloads off the internet burned to DVD for my TV.

And this is on a celeron. never tried it on my main rig, My DVD burner is in my HTPC shuttle box with a TV card in it on my desktop.

I cant say about the A64-P4. anyone else know. I've heard it's not as good as a P4 for media encoding also.

A64 has SSE2 now, it should be much better than AXP in that department.

Can't go wrong with either one. but if i had to choose now, i would opt for the A64 for games. the P4 will overclock better, and has hyperthreading which is useful. plus, the A64 will run 64-bit proggies, but when windows 64-bit and supporting software is still undetermined.

The Intel will multi-task better...think of it like the handling of an F1 car.

But the A64 has the potential to be faster in a straight line...think of it like a drag car.

At least that's my point of view...:D
