View Full Version : P4C800 (non dlx, non e) or IC7-G with Intel Prescott 3.0 GHz
I finaly can't decide which board i shoul take.
i've read alot of thread ( yes, i used the search function :D) but i can't decide.
the prescott will be cooled down by phase change cooling.
(no vapo, no promy)
i won't reach any fsb near 300 cause of the multiplier of 15
so, which one should i buy?
which one is more easy to mod? p4c i think?
the ram i'll use are two sticks of kingston hyperx pc 3200 (bh5 i think).

w/ the P4C800 you will be able to reach higher FSB stable. But ive heard that the IC7-G MAX3 is rock solid stable.
But P4C800 have easy mods.
My vote whould go for P4C800

From what i've seen the asus is a bit better at memory. By that I mean that it seems to allow higher memory overclocks, and more use of the turbo/game accellerator settings. I havn't not used one though, so I'm speaking just from knoldge of what I've seen.
What I want is 3.2 - 3.6 V vdimm
Is it correct that the Abit board have some issues with some ram?
asus is more easy to mod?
the 3.3V rail is supplying the vmem?! so i've to mod my powersuply to.

The Max3 seems to have probs with some memory sticks.
P4C800 is a good choice. Mem mod is very easy on this one.
I vote for the P4C800.

So does mine mate, still droops like a 90 year old on his wedding night. :(
If I could find a real nice piccy of the mod, I would get mine done, but I'm still not sure exactly what I'm soldering to.

It's a really tiny resistor. I can't do it myself, I'm way to clumsy for that. :D
Just like you, my hands are way to big, and not always steady. Because you'll need a very steady hand for the droop mod.
I know a guy who perhaps can fix it. We'll see that by next week.

I might give it a shot soon anyway, I'll just make sure I try it after I get paid. :D
I've bought a p4c800 deluxe board today.
got it for 110€ (90$ i think). nice deal at all. :)
can someone post a link to the vcore stabilsation mod?
if i wan't more than 3.2 vdimm, do i have to mod the 3.3v rail of my powersuply?

That's the best one I have found so far, but I'm not sure which points to solder to.

For the stabilization mod go at xtreme mod forums, and search a little bit you will found a good one

That's a real nice deal you got there.
Where did you buy it?
here's a link to the droop mod :

Yes, you'll need to mod the 3.3V rail on your PSU, in order to go +3.3V on your memory.

Penguin :
I assume that's for the P4P800, which is different as for the P4C800, right?
I talked bull§§§§ :D
1€ = 1.25$
So 110€ = 137$
Sorry. I'm very tired.
So is this picture posted for the P4C or P4P.
The Prescott delayd until February 12th ... Is a 2.6GHz 800FSB a good CPU until I get the Prescott?
I ask because it's the first Intel after a long period of time now.

Gah, that's the picture for the P4P, I'm not sure about the P4C, I'm drowning in mad product numbers here.
Ignore me for now, I might start talking sense later on, but I wouldn't hold your breath. :D

2.6C is a good choice.
A 2.8C is maybe a little better, as they tend to oc a little better than the 2.6C.
See if you can find a 2.8C SL6Z5, they perform pretty well.

2.6 and 2.8 do not clock any different.
And you don't want a 14 multi on air.
Soulburner

Then the 2.8 is for you (theoretically, based on FSB/multi).

I also think, that the P4 2,8 is a good choice. Most of the SL6Z5 CPUs are very good overklockers
I got an 2.8GHz P4 SL6Z5 today. The P4C800 DLX should be here soon to. My Phase Change Cooler is finished also.
I'll post results soon.

so with a rev 2.00, the droop mod is unnecessary ? They've fixed the vcore fluctuations ?

Got a new P4C800-E DLX few days ago. Its rev 2.00 board, and it droops like ******. Even they havent fixed drooping, voltageloss problems has been fixed. P4C800-E is IMO the best board you can get ATM. Its fast, reliable and easy to mod.

Dont use any resistors. Just solder wire from LM358 leg six to ground. You can plug the other end of wire, in 3 pin fanconnector of broken fan, so you can take it of everytime you want.

I would get the Asus P4C800, since it correctly reads Prescott's L1 cache and identifies it. I read that the Abit IC7max3 does not yet, due to chipset.

ya, take a special attention to what kanavit said. MAX3 have THE problem, the only board that FUGGER have tested and worked correctly w/ Prescott is the P4C800
