Specs:

Abit IC7-Max3; 2x256 OCZ PC4000 gold (1.8v); XFX 5900FX (AGP at 1.65v); 520watt Vantec Stealth PSU... reading solid 12v and 5v using multimeter.

Cooled with several 120mm and 92mm case fans, and a SP94 with a 92mm tornado... switched between 12v and 7v.

My max overclock at stock voltage is 3.2ghz... 1:1 or 5:4.

Even at 3.25 it gets unstable.

At 5:4 the best I can get is 3.4ghz... but thats at 1.65volts!

Anything above that is unstable even at 1.75v.

It just doesnt matter... my system is cooled well and I've never had trouble overclocking chips before.

AMD and Intel, single or dual.

It seems most people can get 3.4ghz out of the M0's easy.

I've tried several bioses, adjusted all timings, GAT, etc. As well as using a single stick of ram, dual channel, hyperthreading on or off.

The chip only likes 3.2... anything above requires lots of juice to get little gain.

Oh well... glad I didnt pay extra for it. Like some I've heard of.

your chip is still better then mine. 2.8 MALAY that only do 2.85 at stock!!! i can do 3.2@1.575 and 3.3 @1.7. You can get higher, w/ more FSB then me.

BTW: some chip are good and other bad;)

nope mine sucks worse.... i have same config except corsair 4000 stuff not ocz and a 9800pro o and a truepower 430... ok so we have the same cpu/mobo and mine only does 3.1ish like 3.158 or something retarted like that... i can do a suicide run at 3.2 3.3 with like ~1.75v but id like to keep chip for more than a few weeks so...

i may be getting a phase-change cooler from captaincascade soon though... hope thatll change some stuff

3.2GHz is as far as I have taken this 2.4c at stock volts, I have spent the last month or o trying to get this damn RAM to run properly, just do what I plan on doing, set a time limit, if you don't have a decent overclock by then, take up morris dancing.

How can you resist?!?!?!

You're still lucky with the chip compared to my 2.6C. Only does 250 FSB (~3250 MHz) with 1.675V (!).
If you compare the difference max. oc with stock speed, that's a 650 MHz increase for me with watercooling, and you get ~1 GHz with aircooling, which ain't so bad I think...

When you're going past 3.2, what do you have the ram set at?

Well, maybe it's not the worst... but for a M0, it's pretty weak.

It's strange... at 3.2ghz, I can run the ram at 167 1:1 2.5/5/4/3

But if I take it any higher it fails prime95... it doesnt matter if I change to 3/8/4/4 at 3.2v... it just dont go.

So, to get to 3.4ghz, I have to run the ram at 5:4, 2.5/5/4/3.

But that takes the ram speed down to like 220mhz and my bandwidth tanks.

It's funny, at 3.2ghz 1:1 I score 18600 in 3dmark01.

At 3.4ghz 5:4 I score 18900 in 3dmark01.

300 points to go from 1.5v to 1.65.

I dont think so.

It's just the chip, it just doesnt have a hard overclock in it.

A friend even tried it in his system... a shuttle board, and he couldnt get it stable at anything above 3.2ghz either.

Even still... I only paid $160 shipped for what is basically a 3.2ghz P4 with DDR 533 at 1.5v. Cant complain too much.

But when you buy a 3.2 you can OC it, so its just like youve buyed a 2.4C coze of the FSB too;). Try to sell it and buy the same model;)

Thats odd. Same ram, "same" chip, completly different results. When I use 5:4 with this ram running at 3.4ghz I score worse in 3dmark01. You're probalby right though, the chip must not be a winner.

I had two 2.4C's that just wouldn't do 3ghz at any voltage.

Could be lots of things I suppose... perhaps there is a difference in the motherboards... the MAX3 bios might have tighter timings, it could also come down to our video cards.

Maybe my 5900FX likes the faster CPU, while your card enjoys the faster FSB.

Odd stuff indeed.

The world of overclocking... it certainly doesnt make any sense.

Ouch... that's not easy to find.

But, thanks for making me feel better. :D

Yeah, I wasn't happy either.

make sure its not your MAX3 thats causing your problems, check your Vtt voltages, make sure they are right, i have the same problem on my max3 and my sl6z3, its cuz of my volts
