You're at the beach, you pick up a sea shell, you throw it back on the beach. We can agree that it's not littering, right?

OK... Now you're on the same beach, except this time you brought your own sea shells, and you throw them on the beach. Is that littering? Does it matter if the same kind of sea shell is already on the bach at its natural state? What if they're sea shells from a totally other continent? Then is it littering?

Another one: You pick up a sea shell, you paint it bright green (with a nice environmentally friendly paint), and THEN you throw it back on the beach. Is that littering? Has the sea shell become thrash?

So... Let's say it's become trash. You could be arrested for littering. But what if you never picked that sea shell, what if you just painstakingly painted it while it was lying on the beach? It could then be considered vandalism, which is way different from loitering. Just because you did not pick the sea shell before painting it.

Please forgive me or crapping such an important thread. This sea shell issue has been much discussed lately and is a hot topic of debate both here and abroad. There was a good article in the Washington Post about it yesterday and I understand it is being considered for the cover of next months TIME magizine.
It seems you have given it a great deal of thought and it is very comforting to all of us I'm sure to know that you are on the case.:toast:

I had some She Crab soup in Maine a couple years ago that was the best damn soup I have ever had in my entire life!
