I finally got a good working board from Abit RMA. I started horsing around with it last night. Currently, it's running with a P4 2.8C (D1), 2x512m XMS4000 Pro (TwinX), SwifTech MCX4000 cooler, Antec TruePower 550w and a 9800XT.
Obviously air cooling is going to be a serious limitation to CPU overclocking. It may not be a very well OCing CPU anyway. My voltages are now all pretty stable, and I am using BigToes final 13 BIOS for giggles.
I just can't seem to get the thing much over 250 in 1:1 ratio. Is there a trick to making this work? I know the RAM can do it, pretty sure the CPU can as well.
In terms of NB cooling the i875, is it worth it to go with something like the Swifty NB cooler? Or is it advantageous enough to go with something more extreme like a Pelt?
Are there other voltage mods I should be considering? Im prepping this board for a Prometeia which I hope to get by the spring. Mostly, it seems like theres a wall over 250 and Im not sure how to get around it.
