my friend is thinking about this setup:

2x 512mb kingston hyperx pc3000
abit ic7
intel 2.8c

how would this do as far as overclocking? would the memory be a problem? he says he isn't going to oc right now, but may want to in the future.

If he gets kingston hyperx pc3000 with BH-5chips he can probbaly run the memory at 235-250mhz 2-2-2-5 with 3.2v.. If he gets a M0 cpu he can probbaly run 3.5Ghz with stock cooling..

try: 2.8M0 or 2.4M0, w/ KHXPC3200k2/512. I whould say a P4P800dlx(or P4C for 50$+ more).

Remember: KHXPC3200Ak2/512 is not the same thing
