Celerons and Gaming...

Hi I am kinda thinking about getting my younger brother a Duron or Celeron. For the Celeron, I"m only thinking about the "p4" celerons and I was wondering what the gaming performance of the chip is. I know its not great, but can someone give me an idea of what games my brother can play with a card like a gf4mx440 or r9200.

whit the R9200 whit a 2.4 celly, he will play to BF1942 whit med perform and quality. And if he whant to OC it a little bit, i will do it easyly

how about max payne (1, 2) and gta3? Those are the only games my brother ever plays

Also, does anyone have an idea where I can get a cheap sckt 478 (preferrably an older one) that is around the price of a celeron?

If you're on a budget, why not pick up one of those 1600mhz durons, and OC it.

IF you OC either of those cards he should be able to paly those games decently. MAx Payne 1 for sure, GTA3 should be ok on medium details or such. Max Payne 2 might be a bit of a stretch, but if he's fine with lower settings it'll be ok I think.

the celly 2.4 whould OC at 3.0 or 3.2. and the vidcard OC (GPU for higher detail, and MEM for perf. Or the opposite, dont remember). MP1 and GTA3 can go at med(if you get god good OC probably high detail med perf). The only thing is the MP2, im not sure, probably the min will be detail med, perf low. But w/ good OC you will probably do med

I can play at 1024 x 768 with my current rig (sig) and the quality is amazing (to me)

but anyways, ill just look for a cheap ti4200 on ebay or here ocne the sales section is back up :D

AMD processors will mop the floor with Celerons for the same money or less.

yeah i no, but i have a motherboard lying around (p4p8x) so i want something cheap so that doesnt go to waste :)

nf7 mobo only 90 bucks + xp2500 = 180 bucks... i think 180 bucks for a decent system is better then 70 for a celeron and junk .. i hate celerons =( dont mind me tho, im rascist against celerons

Yeah good point. I'm trying to find a p4 tho, cause i have a spare p4p8x and I need to put it to some work

But i can always sell it and buy the barton system :)
