Wow that sucks. I get close to 4000kbps with my cable here. Supposed to be a max of 1.5 but they changed the system and apparently forgot to slow mine down.

Canada pwns j00....

I can get either cable from Shaw with uncapped download (so 10Mbit max), and 512k upload, with monthly usage quotas, or DSL with 1.5Mbit down, 128k up that I can use to full speed 24/7 if I want for $40/month CAD. My connection now is DSL with 3Mbit down/640k up, which can also has unlimited usage. Price is $100 CAD/month.

Can you run a network drop over here off that Knight?

Heh.... no ;). I live in a university dorm, and that connection is used by everyone in the building, I'm just the network admin.

The cable connection I use everyday has a theoretic max of 10Mbit, I reach up to 850Kb/sec down, unfortunately only 16Kb/sec up :( I can upgrade my upload, but that's not necessairy...

DSL is capped at 3.3Mbit in Belgium which gives you about 350Kb/sec down, and the same 16Kb/sec up.

Both cost about 40€ a month, that's around 50 US $, but we have download limits (10Gb a month, cable also has an upload limit, which is with the standard service 15% percent of your total)

The cable service has lots of options, you can upgrade to 30Gb traffic a month with faster upload and 30% of your total for upload, still with the same standard formule (which costs you offcourse quite a bit)

For extra traffic, you pay 1€/Gb, so that's still affordable...

And yes, Belgium is the country with the most cables in the ground of all countries...

Did you mean kilobytes?

kilo bit is small b: kb

kilo byte is big B: kB

big diff.

byte = bit/8

I'm back.

The charge for the 1Mb connection mentioned above is £33 a month, which is about standard rate over here, but Bulldog have some of the best ratings for customer service, so I figure even if the price wasn't too great, it's worth it, the contention ration is quite high, but I doubt that the scallies in this area even know the Internet exists, never mind have DSL connections. :D

gobbo
01-12-2004, 08:37 AM
I'm paying £35 pre month for 1mbit cable, prices seem to be £20-£25 for 516kb and £30-£35 for 1mbit, depending on ADSl/SDSL/DSL/cable companies.

st0nedpenguin
01-12-2004, 08:57 AM
Yeah, I was going to go with Pipex myself, but their customer service department wouldn't even answer a couple of questions, I asked a few weeks ago, plus they insist my exchange isn't capable of a 1Mb connection, despite most ISP's saying it is, so I went with Bulldog in the end.

Is your connection through NTL or Telewest?

ctgilles
01-12-2004, 01:18 PM
I'm paying about 40€ a month for my ADSL :(
3300 DOWN / 128 UP

Upload sucks :( Although Scarlet is offering 384 UP :) But then again, I'm averaging about 50~120GB a month, and I'm currently limitless over at Easynet :D That'd be at least 40 volume packs a months at 1€ a piece :p:

1500 / 1500 SDLSL is what I need :D but at 500+€ a month a bit too expensive, Easynet is building an own DSL network over here, but not yet available around here yet
360kB/sec isn't too bad :) but 12kB/sec up is :D

saaya
01-13-2004, 12:38 AM
2mbit for 45€ here, no gb limit though my max upload rate is 24kb/s wich is not really enough to upload anything... :(

is this your first dsl? :D
congrats! :toast:

Yup, this will be my first net connection since the days when having a 56k modem was the height of luxury, I was going to go cable, but once NTL started imposing a 1Gb per day limit, that idea kind of went out the window. :D

I have just ordered a Router, microfilter and 2 2m cables, and then found out that the phone socket in my room doesn't even work.

You must be lucking out, I have a few friends who are getting all kinds of grief for exceeding the limit, but I think it only applies if you are sucking down insane amounts of bandwidth, which I intend to do. :d

And you call that expensive?

Lets have a laugh here, shall we?

In Greece, you need about 70€ monthly for 384/128 DSL (the lowest possible charge), about 120€ for 512/128 and over 230€ for 1024/128 speeds.

You want something faster? Forget it.
Matter of fact, DSL sprang in Greece just 4-6 months ago for the consumer market, before that there was all dial-up and ISDN with per-minute charge.

Oh yes, Greece is in EU......

I can make it more fun if you like, so think about it and be happy with what you already have people, some countries still never heard of the 'Internet' before.

Actually living in Europe is fine for me, it just annoys me when it comes to buying things.

It's pretty much guaranteed that a given product will arrive here later than the US, more limited than it is in the US, and at a higher price than the US, take DVD's for example, I'm going to have to start ordering region 1 disks, I may as well get more value for my money, for less money, I might add.

Of course, I am a moany old man, so my opinions are a tad skewed, but we can be glad of one thing, at least we don't have the US legal system. :D
