Finally got round to order my 3200+ 64 chip, but now i've got ot decide on which motherboard to go with!
I've read up on a few sites, and it seems the VIa K8T800 or what ever it is is leading the way for performance, and i've looked into mobos and narrowed it down to the following:
Abit KV8-MAX3
Epox 8HDA3+
Both of these boards seem to get very similar reviews, but i'd like to know what experiance anyone on this site has had with them? Also, i'll be running the system with 2x256mb Corsair XMS Pc3200, will this give any loss in performance, heard something about PC3500 or higer is better for A64 boards?
Any advice on Athlon 64 upgrading would be apprecaited too guys!
P.S - Its good to be home after a while away!

via based boards are better for low fsb, but the nf3 pulls through at higher fsb. If you plan on running a high fsb go with a Shuttle AN50R...i have heard a lot of good about it...if you arent running a high fsb then go with via...a nice choice would be the asus KV8. I will let others give you suggestions too...

Shuttle AN50R is what most people are suggesting nowadays.

If u using phase change cooling on the CPU then ur best bet is to go for one of the NF3 boards... either the Shuttle or one of the Gigabyte range...
If ur only guna be using stock cooling or a heatsink and fan ur best bet is to go with one of the VIA chipset boards.. my own personal opinion wud be the ASUS K8V Deluxe.. :D

So its looking like NF3 boards rather than VIA boards then, gonna be watercooling it, got the Maze4 DangerDen block.
I thought Asus boards were normally pretty bad, their A64 baord bit better then?

Personal opinion is that the ASUS is the best VIA board out at present for the A64.... with the ABIT one being the worst :S

if your going to be watercooling, get a nf3. youll fsb will be fairly high with good cpu cooling. go ask opp or some1 who is more familiar with the a64, and do what he says.

my vote goes to Shuttle AN50R for sure, lots of good top results with the board..
avoid KV8-MAX3, it's utter crap..

shuttle has low performance compared to gigabyte and have been dying and killing chips. the gigabytes need vcore mods though.

Abit are losing it??? Both my AN7s could only be described as UTTER CRAP too, and I see a lot of issues with the ABIT IC7 boards too.

Its has low performance thats why it can only score 30k in 3dmark01:rolleyes: do you have proof of this?

Bowman said that in his testing its 500 points behind.
i hope it doesnt have poor performance cause im looking foward to recieving mine for my new build and i would be verry disapointed if this were true? i do not want to go via i like my nforce2 chip set and im sure ill like my new nforce3 chip set as well...

I am running An50R and 3400+ and Im not liking it all too much...Did all the mods, I have the super cooling, and my LV2 has run up to 252 1:1 5-2-2-2 stable in ic7max3. Some random reboots and an inability to pass 230 stable 1:1 or 245 5:4. It's either the chip, the board, or my inexperience with a64 and nforce3..I'll figure it out soon though :)

Wow take it easy there pal. Thats not necessary. He should have written lower performance, ok, but dont bite his head off.
