Microsoft Desktop Sets. (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productlist.aspx?type=Sets)

If you want the finest pointing and typing devices, Microsoft is the way to go, and check it out, they have black coming out of every orifice. :D

The best Mouse/keyboard combo currently on the market is This (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?countryid=19&languageid=1&page=products/details&CRID=486&CONTENTID=7321) But quality doesnt come cheap, it's over $249 They have a version for $179msrp that is just as good minus the extra keypad

If you want the second best, get this http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=products/details&CRID=486&CONTENTID=6831&countryid=19&languageid=1

It's $99 or cheaper at Newegg, you cannot beat a MX700 mouse and a cordless Elite keyboard. (seen them as low as $79 for the combo)

Honestly for gaming and general use, Microsoft doesnt even have a product that comes close to the Mx700 mouse in terms of ease of use, ergonomics and functionality.

To me Microsoft has decent keyboards, but Logitech makes both the Best mice and excellent keyboards, I would get a Logitech combo as its possible you could have 'cross-talk' using different manufacturers. Its unlikely but it happens.

Do a google search, in every head to head shootout with the Mx700 combo vs Microsofts combo, the Logitech wins every time.

I love microsoft keyboards, And i loved my original Explorer 1.0 mouse but i cant stand the new explorer mouse buttons. I've got an MX700, which i switch back and forth with my explorer 1.0 while gameing. I've done taken apart my 1.0 version so much to fix it. i know it's about to go.

silversink nailed it. Logitech make the best feeling keyboard and mouse of anyone. the mx700 is....perfect. The batter life lasts for longer than you could possible want to use it at a sitting, and the keyboard is great to. the duo elites (wireless keyboard and mx700) are i think $79.99 at newegg, I am not completely sure though.

does just the mouse need batteries, or does the keyboard need them as well? (for the logitech setup w/ mx700 mouse)

ok, just did some research.
is this the good one?

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=23-126-124&catalog=63&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=1

if so, it looks awesome. looks like you can charge the mouse?? is that right? still doesnt say if the keyboard needs batteries though. and if the mouse has a charger, then does it have regular batteries, or a rechargable battery pack??

The mouse cradle is the recharger, logitech ships it with 1700 nIMH batteries. Thats a nice price on a great combo, if you buy it you shouldnt be disapointed.

I dont know why Newegg has Alkaline Duracell batterie in this PIC (http://images10.newegg.com/productimage/23-126-124-02.JPG). Alkalines dont recharge in the cradle, and when you get it it will have Nimh 1700's or it should.

that is what i use on 2 of my comps right now and i love it, mouse is very sensitive, and the mouse and keyboard have enough extra buttons and hotkeys for anything you could want, i love them, make sure you charge the mouse every few days tho, its really a pain to be playing a game and have your mouse die on you lol

Thats one reason I use either 2100mAh or 2300mAh, They just last longer than the 1700's, but the 1700's seem to last a few days, get in the habit of placing the mouse in the cradle when you go to bed, or at the end of the day. Get in that habit and you will never have a problem with the mouse peetering in a game.

Well, I'm outnumbered, but who cares? :D

I dunno, I have tried out a few of the newer Logitech mice, and they just feel like crap in my hand, but obviously it's a subjective thing.

Of you can, pop to a big crappy computer store and try them out, best way to buy a keyboard/mouse, what feels like crap to me might feel great to you, and vise versa.

I'm looking for a "benching" keyboard and mouse...something compact that has the mouse (or trackball) built into the keyboard.
