Alright I just moved into my new apt. and am getting the cable internet and tv turned on wed. Now as it worked out for my mother she pays for internet and because its through the cable line her basic cable works even though she doesnt pay for it. For internet and then basic cable its 75 bucks a month. For just the cable internet its 55 bucks a month. So b4 i tell the cable guy to just turn on the internet and not the cable tv i wanted to hear from u all as to what ur experiences have shown. Does it work all the time?? My cable provider is adelphia and mothers is comcast if that matters.

$55 ouch,
The last place i lived 3 years ago. the cable was free/included at the apartment. when i signed up for comast cable. they just sent me a seperate bill for the interenet.
I've heard comcast is higher in some places. I pay $41.95 per month. 3000down/384up.

i dont know much about apheldia or whatever. But I do know comcast cable and cable modems rule! My cable modem always gets at least 1.6mbps. Also, at like 3am I can get 3.5mbps EASY! Must be a maintainance time or something. Comcast rules tho because when dad and I moved we had basic cable, (32 channels) but the guy who lived in the house we live in now, had full cable (80 channels) so they never fixed it, and we get 80 channels for 12.00 a month! lol. i <3 comcast.
EDIT : we pay 40.19 a month for 1500 down:D : 128 up:(

55 is for the internet alone. Thats why i ask about the basic cable. its 75 for internet and cable. I want to know when i get internet turned on if basic cable works as well as it does with my mother on comcast. I have to use adelphia as only cable service provider here. Guaranteed 3.2mb down and 1mb up. I'd much rather pay 55 than 75
Basic cable should not work if the cable co. does it right. What they need to install is called a trap and it only passes the bandwidth for the modem... no television channels.
I have Time Warner Road-Runner cable modem service and this is how it's setup in our area(and all of Time Warner I'm told).
BUT, we also have the option of what they call "Life-Line" service for $7/mo. and that's channels 2-13... it's basically for the satellite people since local channels aren't, for the most part, available.

I have adelphia, and it's pretty good.
3mbit down and 256K up.
I think it's $40 a months, and the cable is around that as well.

You guys got it good ;) $59.95/mo for 512/256 ADSL here.
If I went to 1k/384 it would be $99.95.
The price you pay for broadband in the toolies...

Hope I'm not too late,
When I got Cable internet I didn't sign up for the basic or digital TV. When the TV guy came I asked him about it, slid some dough his way, and this is what he told me and did.
When you have Cable internet you automatically get basic cable. However, they need to attach these adapters on all your TV lines for you Cable TV to work "Right." They arebout 2" long and a bit fatter than a 25 cent piece.
Without the adapter, I think you still get basic cable, but it F's up your internet connection a bit and causes problems that they might be able to tell. With the adapter they can't tell only if they physically go into your place.
So, he gave me some and slapped them on for me.
Hope this helps,
K:toast:
Oh and no way to get digital cable without doing whatever they do and they can totally tell if you have.

Sometimes they are too cheap or lazy to do that though. And think no one would bother to check thier tv on it.
Around here, you can get 75% of the channels free with just internet because the dork running it dosen't know how to block the mid band without killing the snr.

What you can also do is what my friend did is give the cable guy a huge "tip" and he'll leave the filter off, leaving you to only pay for the internet :)

So this will not work on Time Warner (Roadrunner)?

Only on cable. And then it depends on how smart your isp is. Most assume the general pubic isn't smart enough to think of this.

Roadrunner is cable.
Someone mentioned something about Time Warner somewhere but I forgot what...this would save me $40 per month if it worked.

As regards to free cable with internet... you used to be able to do that all the time. Where I live though, the cable companies have installed blockers on all the lines, so if you do not pay for the cable, you don't get anything, except the Country Music Channel :), though you do get your internet, obviously.
