I also posted this at the Abit support centre, but since that forum isnt visited that much i thought i'd post it here as well :p

Read :)

Right guys, so here's the story :)

Bought myself a Duron Applebred yesterday, installed it, tried to oc it but couldnt get further then 155fsb, so, i started burning it in on these specs:

Stock speed (1.4ghz), 1.9 Vcore, 2.55 Vdimm, standard Vdd as i dont have modded this board.

Now, i just thought, this should be enough burning-in , let's do some overclocking!

So i rebooted, went into the bios, and set the fsb too 150 still @ 1.9v Vcore, to let it 'burn in' a little more :) Also set the Vdimm too 1.65, in case it needed some more juice .. :)

Then, i just went out of the bios, rebooted ... and right after the POST, where you get some summed-up stuff about your hardware i only see 'CPU' ! Then it freezes. I thought hey wtf ??? so i rebooted again, went into the bios and all i got was a black screen, with a blue bar on the bottom , and a cursor on the top-left.

Right so i was thinking, this isnt good, reboot again. Going into the Bios again, and now all i get is this:

Anyone know what this could be?
Stuff i already tried:

- CMOS Reset with the jumper, didnt work
- Taking out the battery , power off, didnt work.

I've pressed a bit on the BIOS chip, in case it might have got a bit _loose_ (dont think it can happen, but it's worth the try) ... but that didnt work as well.

Specs for my system:

AMD Duron 1400mhz
Abit KD7-Raid with the latest BIOS
512 MB Kinston Hyper-X PC2700
2 * IBM Deskstar drives
Pioneer dvd reader
LiteOn CD Burner
Some cheap-ass NIC
Soundblaster Live!
Leadtek Geforce 3 Ti200 (recently put some AS2 on the chips of that, but dont think it has anything to do with this).

This is all being watercooled, stress tested with Prime95 for several hours, stable @ 40c core temp....

I havent switched CPU's yet, because it's pain in the ass to get the cpu out. 2 of those M4 bolts are jamming my ZIF Socket-clip  So that's the last thing i want to try :D , besides, i dont have another socket A computer in this house..

Some dude on the IRC channel said, i might have damaged my northbridge

Well, i'm sure that somebody could tell me what i did wrong, and what is broken?

Whip out everything bar CPU and reseat it specially the AGP card and mem. Also take BIOS battery out for a good 20mins as well to completely clear it :)

Havent tried taking everything out yet :D
But i did dump the battery, and left the power off for like half an hour but still no go :/

If it isn't that, what else would it be?

My first thought would be to swap out the videocard and see what you have.

If that doesn't do it, follow Firelord's advice and strip it down to bare minimum and start over.

It could indeed be the bios although I've never seen a bad bios exibit that kind of on screen corruption...tho I've seen videocards do it many times:D

Right, so maybe it does have something to do with me putting AS2 on the chips? maybe something got on the electronic parts of it, and made it short cut the circuit? (even though i think it is very weird, that the graphics card bios works, and i dont hear any beeps)...

Well, i just replaced it with my old TNT2 card, but i still get the same weird stuff, also checked the chips on the gf3 for any spilled AS2, but i couldnt find any...

Also i just ripped everything out, but it's still not going :(

so i rebooted again, went into the bios and all i got was a black screen, with a blue bar on the bottom , and a cursor on the top-left.

if you have enermax fans connected to your mainboard, disconnect them

i pulled out all the fans on the mobo, still same story :/

I've mailed Abit just a sec ago, if they could send me a new bios ...

I'm leaning toward the bios.I would change out the processor for a test first.I get that black screen, blue bar at the bottom, cursor in the top left and have seen those very colorful symbols before. I get it whenever I try to boot up at sub zero temps .It happens to me because my bios doesnt reconize my low temps. My bios only goes down to zero and the temp value below that is its max shutdown temp.My hunch is that in your case your still asking the bios to do something it cant do or it is damaged.Assuming of course that your not overheating and your processor is good. I dont know if this helps I'm not an expert ,its just some thoughts based on my experience.:D

Well, the CPU never got overheated or anything, i burned it in at 1.9volts, doing prime95 for a couple of hours, the CPU Surface temp got 40-41c, and people tell me that the core temp would be about 10c more... 51c isnt that much ... is it? I'm just running on water, normal temps ... no subsero-like temperatures over here :D .
Also i erased that inverted C i drew on the cpu (my attempt to get full cache), but it is still not working.

I Mailed abit, and hopefully they send me a new BIOS, if not i'll get an NF7-S.... but i'm sure Abit has good customer support :D

Will try switching cpu later today, have to visit family and such..

No, 51c isn't a big deal .You have a shutdown temp of 85c. Provided your motherboard is doing its job and shuts it down.Good luck it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

im going to switch cpu in a sec, if it doesnt work i'll go back to the guys where i bought it from and see how it turns out.

Hummmm update!

I Think i screwed it over myself ... here's an update of my story ... as i was just about to switch CPU's , i had to remove 2 of the screws from the waterblock to be able to open the ZIF Socket. Now, what did i see there ... on the backside of the mobo!

I Seem to have forgotten to put a small plastic thing between on of the screws, and i must have put to much strain on that screw. so here's what is left of it:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~vanderl/DeBastaard/crap/PICT1086.jpg

I've got some strong feeling this is the problem ... !
Does this also screw over my warrenty? thanks... i'm going to the shop where i bought it in a minute soo...

Yea looks like you found it .If you still have a in-store warranty take it back and play dumb. or fix it.

Looking at the damage, as long as you use a plastic washer when you put it back together it should still work fine... without a washer the screw would be shorting across the tracks.... with washer in place there is no medium to short across...

Clean the area up with some isopropynol, apply a thin layer of nail varnish remover fer protection, reassemble with washer and u should be good to go...

It looks as if one trace has been cut, hard to tell though. I have reconected them before after removing the protective coating ,reconect the trace with that liquid window defroster repair kit using a needle and a good magnifier then recoat it as Marci stated.

Nah i just went to the shop/retailer ... but their RMA Dep. was closed till monday, so i just left the mainboard there, and i should call them on monday.
Just told them, the BIOS was tripping on me :p I've also asked, what _in case it cant be fixed_ amount of money i should add to the old mainboard to get an NF7-S *hehe*.
They didn't know that yet, because they couldnt really tell the market value of that mainboard right now, but, im sure i have some news next week =)

Thanks for all the input fellas :)
