View Full Version : Will Closing the 5th L3 Mod Work on Tbred 2400 & 2600??

If older mobos can only support 5X thru 12.5X Multipliers, as found with the Tbred 2200, then we see a problem in that 12.5X max might be "too low" for these new cpus with default Multipliers of 15X and 16X...ie...what does "upgrade" user do if he "could" oc to some high FSB at 13X, but can't set 13X cause system won't post/boot and the L3 mod can't deliver higher than 12.5X?? Interesting.

Well I don't think anyone's gonna know till we have em in our hands.

Firingsquad's review said the old L1 pencil trick worked.

I saw that too..but I doubt it highly. If you remember when the 2200+ came out...I believe either AMDZone or AMDMB.com claimed the same thing...but upon testing it myself with a multimeter, found the L1's were in fact already connected. They may in fact have unlocked engineering samples..who knows. One thing I do know, is that pencil rarely works on the XP substrate like it did on the ceramic T-Birds. Many have tried the L3 bridge with pencil and failed, only to have it work first time with conductive ink.

We'l find out soon what it will take once we get our hands on them:)

MrIcee,
Know you're aware of this issue, but just to clarify for all...

What the original post was about is that we expect the 2600 to unlock exactly like the 2200, close the 5th L3 or equivalent AJ27 pin mod. Then given the same mobos/bios issue, we expect no (control of) Multipliers = 13X and higher...just like the 2200 and mobo/bios.

So we know that will be one of your first tests. Hope you get one soon. But since AMD was handing out Epox 8K3A+ mobos along with 2600 samples, maybe that mobo has fixed the 13X and up problem???
