ATI 9700 vs Ti4600 @ Default

This LINK (http://gamespot.com/gshw/stories/flat/0,12880,2877609,00.html) got a new a new Alienware 2.53 in for review with a 9700 in it ...they did all the normal benchies and then switched it with a GF4Ti4600n to compare ....looks to me that ATI optimized first drivers for 3D01SE like they did with 8500...judge for yourselfs...

nice review by [H] gets them almost 16k in 3dmark

but why no overclocks... not one review has overclocks!!!!!!

might not be hard locked just been reading one of the reviews and according to it powerstrip already allows overclocking


A word on overclocking - the current version of Powerstrip already offers overclocking options for the Radeon 9700 PRO. Since the test samples are all from a pre-production batch, we decided against overclocking tests, as these would not necessarily reflect the potential of the final production boards. Consequently, we will wait until we have samples of final shipping ATi cards (or those produced by ATi's partners) before testing their overclocking potential. The final cards to be shipped will be produced in China.

Already finished my copper ram sinks, and it appears to have 2 holes for HSF mounting only.

IMO, the reviews on web are on preproduction ES..the elite..best of best..otherwise why such a difference of 2000+ points between [H] and above retail ready alienware...who bye the way are quoting bench's in 14000+ range with a 2.53 and are shipping as we speak.

Alienware in sunday's east coast USA papers was in BEST BUY's circular stating "9700 in stock and shipped to your door within 3days..GUARNTEED"
