ok, which RAM chips on the 9800se are the best for the softmod to a 9800np and then 9800pro? and is one card manufacturer modding more than others? thanks in advance

The only way you can have a 9800SE be modded to 9800 Pro, and have similar performance, would be to get a 9800SE that has a 256-bit memory interface. There's no way, short of replacing the entire PCB, to convert a 128-bit PCB to a 256-bit PCB. Cards with a 256-bit memory interface are almost impossible to find (except through second-hand sources - like Ebay, if you trust the source) in North America. In Europe, it may be easier to find, with the Hercules 9800SE All-In-Wonder said to be using 256-bit memory interface. I believe the Hercules 9800SE AIW uses Samsung 2A (2.86ns) memory (same as a 9800 Pro).

If you have a 9800SE with 128-bit memory, then opening up the 4 disabled pipelines and overclocking it will still net you with nothing faster then an overclocked 9600 Pro. And at the risk that some of the disabled pipelines may be damaged, causing artifacts to appear on screen.

hmmm, thanks, i will do research on the hercules model. i think i am willing to take a risk with it, as i am kinda bored with a simple overclocked video card. i want something mopre challenging, and this has interested me immensely
