View Full Version : Fortron Source FSP530-60GNA 530W Power Supply
Just received this "little" guy from NewEgg.com and my first impression is WOW! It has two low speed fans, one in the rear and one in the front. Noise is just about nothing coming from them... to the point that I had to put my hand near them to make sure they were on. ;)
Power wise...
3.3v - 28a
5v - 40a
12v - 18a
While these aren't HUGE, people who have used FS type power supplies know these are very conservative ratings.
Now for the best part, inside the ps on a daughter card are 5 pot adjustments. Three for "overvolt" protection of the above voltages and then one more for 5v/12v adjustment and one more for 3.3v adjusting. Not only can you cram more 5v/12v to your processors, you can also up the anti on the 3.3v line(without moding the supply). Not sure what the maximum voltages are but I had 5.8v, 13v, and 3.5v with a simple turn of the two pots.
Right now running my A64 3200+ at 2.5GHz my voltages are 12.1v and 3.34v full-load and 12.2v and 3.34v no-load. Not too shabby.
NewEgg.com listing:

Oh... and it has a price tag of $69 which could also be considered it's "best part". ;)

I have the same power supply and havent had one bit of trouble from it. Unmodded from the factory I am getting 12.45 on the 12v lin and 5.05 on the 5v while under load. Can you post which pots do what as I havent had time to fool with any of them yet. Thanks !

I've always been impressed with the quality of the Fortron/Sparkle PSU's. Definitely a gem.

Yeah I posted about this one in general hardware (doesnt really belong in extreme overclocking) after I found it on newegg.
$69 is a STEAL.

your first fortron jeff? :D congrats :toast:
a good friend just got this really good and heavy enermax 350W psu for 80€ and i was surprised to see that my fortron 350W psu puts out more stable volts than this enermax psu, wich is considered as one of the top5 psus atm :)
and stable rails are more important than high rails! while a good mainboard will always compensate the fluctuations of the psu, it cant compensate them 100%ly.
beware of the low end fortron psus though, not that they are bad, but they are not as good as the high end models. mine is a renamed 400W psu, there are various other series of 350W psus that are of a little lower quality.

Well I'll be danged! Awsome deal on that psu Jeff! I just coughed up 91 bux for my Enermax EG465P-VE. Haven't opened it up, but the rails are right at the moment:
+12v= 12.15v
+5v=5.10v
+3.3v= 3.39v
and this is loaded. Looks like i did'nt need to open her up after all. What i like the most is this:
Output: +3.3V@35A;+5V@35A;-5V@1A;+12V@33A;-12V@1A;+5VSB@2.2A
I guess i get what I paid for ;)
Next time around i'll check into that FS psu ;)

For $69 this thing is great. I've just ordered one. Cant wait to see how she runs.

Yeah, you're probably right. If a mod wants to move it... that's fine by me. ;)
@saaya... it's my first 530w Fortron. :D And about my 15th FS if you include the 5 300w-400w supplies I use for my mini-farm and the 10 others I've ordered for "customer" rigs. ;)
I have to say, the 530w is much more quiet than the 350-400w FS supplies. Not that they are loud but this 530w supply is pretty darn quiet.

If I can get one in the UK then I think I may invest in one.
My 400watt has done me proud up till now but I have a suspicion that It may be a little lacking... and I have a second rig on the way that it will fit into nicely.
If you ever want to have one shipped from the US, just let me know. ;)

Thanks for posting this Jeff, I've been looking at that PSU for awhile but hestitated on it because of the 18a rating on the 12v (went with some Antec TC550's instead). How many devices do you have loading the 12v? Looks like the 12v rail is holding up pretty well with just a .1v droop @ load.

I have this PSU - It's a brick, and can take anything I throw at it. four HDDs, two optical drives, a 2500+ @ 3200+, 9800, and thre 120mms - doesn't flinch!
5.05v, 12.13v under load, far different from the true550
This PSU is no mistake :toast:

Yeah, I looked at it for a while too. I just have a couple hard drives and one optical drive connected currently so I'm not really loading it down too heavily(unlike CV). ;)
I already have plans for a second one for my other semi-bench rig. These things are just built to last. All the internal components look very beefy and there is just a completely solid feel to it.
Again, to FS!!!

It does belong here with the luck i've had with fortron.
HMM i might switch to this. I was doing some Mem Murdering this weekend, I couldnt get over 3.35vmem to my ram, since my TTGI550 just wont go higher on the 3.3v.
I reached for a Fortron 350, i've been using lately, with bare cases. Dam thing will adjust to 3.75volt on the memory if needed, Been running all week in my vapo on the fortron 350, no problems. Got my kingston up to 262fsb 1:1 CAS 2-2-2-5. had to give it 3.55v.
But those timings and fsb i can go back to it instead of the highfsb geil im using with the less than stellar timings. the giel isnt the memory for a 3.2. I've had it to 295fsb with my 2.6c though. 1:1, that's where it belongs.
Paid like $30 something forthe cheaper fortron.. Heavy, with a 120mm quiet fan in it.
Screw you antec, Enermax and the rest of you $100+ whore's who charged me so much in the past!!!
Cept PCpowerandcooling, But you get the best there.

:toast: to that! ;)
I have a 300w FS that powered my 2.65GHz Duron at 5.1v full-load. Granted it had a .25v to .30v drop but it's only a 300w power supply. :D

fsp builds their psus, but they are not the same, except for some of the aopen and sparkle psus wich are just renamed fsp ones.
the aopen and sparkle psus are like the fsp "LE" parts, while the original fsp psus are the "PRO" and the zalman are the "XT" parts, a little faster but not really worth the extra money ;)

My Antec 400w smartpower drops about .15v on the 5v rail at 2400mhz+ under load.. bah.
Does anyone know if ATX PSU's will be compatable with BTX specs?

Hmm, I modded a Sparkle 300w for a bud. Built like a tank, no "LE" about it. Very solid rails and the 5 trimpots as well. Tested in my kr7a prior to shipping it back, it let me hit 211 FSB. No small feat at the time lol.

good to know, i will try a sparkle psu then in the a64 pc im building for my roomate since the original fsp psus are hard to find and the 1 shop that has them wants ~80€ for the 400W one
btx is just marketing i think, its not like it will have anything completely new... im sure any atx psu can be used with a btx mobo, maybe you will have to mod the plug, but thats it.
main thing about btx is the rearengement of the components to be able to use even larger heatsinks to cool the cooking prescotts and next gen cpus from intel.
im more interested to hear about the dual agp boards rumors are passing of :D

My worry is that if I buy another PSU now, its going to be useless when BTX rolls around.. as I am trying to hold off until PCI Express and BTX are in full form..

Yes, BTX will use a ATX psu. But it will use a 24-pin ATX-connector, motherboards that uses 24-pin atx can use a 20-pin atx-connector too. So i don't see why it wouldn't work.

ATX PSUs will work fine with the BTX form factor cases.
Does anyone find the BTX form factor rediculous besides me? The temps had better be a lot better!
This Fortron, better than an Enermax or TRUE Power PSU?

God this thing is so good.
Its rock solid stable, it wont go past .1.
Recommend: buy.
Its only 70 bucks, however, for that this thing is better then most 550w's out there.

You guys I have seen pics of BTX PSU's, they were not the same shape. I'll see if I can find it.

"As we mentioned at the start of this article, the BTX standard specifies the same motherboard connectors as we saw with ATX - meaning that ATX power supplies could be used in BTX cases and with BTX motherboards. The vast majority of ATX power supplies will not fit in micro and definitely not in picoBTX cases, but using them in a full sized BTX tower is a possibility.
Standards for BTX form factor power supplies are being worked on now and one thing you'll definitely see is the new 3.3V Serial ATA power connector on these units. Below you'll see some examples of microBTX power supplies" - Anandtech (http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1876&p=5)
