hello there....
i'm going to sell my 9700pro and i can get a club 3d 9800 pro 256 mb ddrII for almost the same price i could get a 9800 pro 128mb (club 3d again)....
is the 256mb any good...??? i'm interested in the overclocking point of view the most...as i can already play any game with my actual rig....also what could you say from club 3d....??? it doesn't sound as the most "sexy" card maker.... do you know if they use to be any good????
thanx so much for your help....any comments will be appreciated.....:)

welcome to the sickness!! :toast:
i have always had built by ati cards, so i have no experience with any other manufacturer, but i do know that the 128mb 9800pro's generally overclock much better and higher than the 256mb ddrII model

I agree with faruquehabib. The 9800pro256 uses ddrii with a higher memory clock than the 9800pro128, but there is a latency penalty. Also, the memory generally runs much hotter, so a 9800pro128 will most likely clock higher in the memory department. Besides, there isn't much benefit of 256 over 128 at the moment, so 128 will be fine. But since you already have a 9700pro, I suggest you save your money and keep it. There are certain gains however when running AA/AF in really high resolutions in certain games for having 256. If you are going to take the plunge, a BBA is highly recommended.

The 128mb card only clocks higher than the 256mb card after the volt mod.
Its not uncommon to see 400+ from the DDR2 256mb card stock.

soulburner do you mean 400+ on the memory or core...???
i thought at least 420 on the core would be a sure thing to get with stock cooling on both 9800 pro....anyway i'm going to put a wc tec on it sometime soon...but just to know for the time i'm waiting for it....
