View Full Version : Will using a PSU over 12V be bad thing for TEC rig?

The PSU I think I am getting for Christmas is 13.8V, and unadjustable. Will running my TEC (226w) @ 13.8v all the time be a problem? I am sure not everyone runs the stock 12V on a tec as many high AMP psu's have the adjustable voltage from 12-15V.

It may make it hard to find the sweet spot as Holst told me, but I can always take this one back and go for the adjustable variety. Just want to know if it will cause any issues for the system.

What PS is it??, A lot of them say radio shack models, say unadjustable. open the case an ususally you will find an adjustable Pot.

13.2 seems to be a sweetspot to me for My 226 watter, any more volts does no good, and performs worse.

You can click this image to get to its page. I already opened it and didnt see anything that would allow adjustments. Maybe me takes a pic of the inside of it and post it.

Got 2 differnent Pyramids. 36 amp, adjustable with guages on it. Amps and volts.

And a 26 amp adjustable.

Got them both off ebay, for less than buying a new one.

Here's an auction going on now if you wanna go that way

But for the $100 your spending you can get better than the radio shack.

What about volts? Are those 12v DC? No higher?

N/M says variable voltage....but how variable?

the 26 amp model is 5-15 volts.

The 36 amp model is 12-15 volts, adjustable by the knob on the front of the case.

By the way they are not light, I'd guess 35-40 LBS on the 36 amp model

Yeh, I already posted a Thread in the Deals forum about the ones available off eBay.

Prob with eBay is that my girly is buying this and she prefers local purchases....and her friend got burned on eBay to the tune of several hundreds of dollars. She wouldnt buy it from eBay if it was free. :hehe:

I may just have to keep looking around locally to see if I can dig anything up, or just suffer through it until I get one myself.

I run my pelt at 13.4 volts the only reason its not higher is because thats the limit for the psu. My cooling system is pretty good right now so I would go higher if I could.

I have an SEC 1223 Power supply, which provides 13.8V. Runs a 226W fine. As long as it is below the rated maximum voltage for the TEC, it will be fine.

i think most 12v tecs have a max rating of 15.1v, i run mine at 13-14v ps do drift with temperature so check them regually.
