Having been in the a/c industry for quite a while, I can tell you that Tecumseh compressors are veiwed as bottom of the line, and the manufacturers I've dealt with all have had bad experiences with them. They will only use them when Bristol and Copeland can't keep up with their production. As a distributor, I've seen way too many of them returned under warranty and they all had similar issues. If you picked one up and slightly shook it, the d*mn things rattled real bad (the guts were loose and moving around way too much).

Bare in mind that I'm speaking with experience in the residential and light commercial refrigeration industry. That does not mean that all Tecumseh compressors are garbage, just the ones they produce within the 1 through 10 ton sizes.

I personally wouldn't touch one no matter how cheap, because after all the time and effort you would put forth into creating what you're going to use it for, then to have it fail and ruin your project and your hardware just simply isn't worth it. But this is just my two cents worth:2cents: :)

Honestly I'm not all that up on what compressors are good performers for this small of an application. I would recommend you get the advice of Gary LLoyd, Bowman, Captain cascade, etc.. for what compressors they've been having good luck with. I know Bristol and Copeland are the two major brands preferred in the residential a/c industry.
