View Full Version : Mach II problem

I have had my mach II since they first came out and have had zero probs with it untill now...
A few days ago I noticed that the temp while running was down to about -28C on the lcd when it usually runs at about -38C, but my actual cpu temp was the same. This has got worse and today I it won't even get below -30C when I firts turn it on so I can't get it to start up.
I have opened it all up checked all the connections and given it a good clean, still the same.
The unit still gives about the same temp as normal when it isnt switched on (about 30C) like it always did but just wont get down to boot temp when I try and run it.
I'm pretty sure the actual unit is getting cold enough but the temp sensor is playing up.
Is this a problem anyone has heard of? Is there an easy fix? If not do I contact nVentiv about this? Will I need to pay to get it repaired?
TIA
EDIT: I'm also using the latest firmware.
EDIT2: its now struggles to get below -20C but it will boot fine if I short the mobo so the unit is getting cold enough....does anyone have an older firmware I could try?

I doubt that this is a firmware problem.....
Check to see if there is any loss of vapor or oil from the compressor. Actually you won't notice the vapor loss, but check for visible damage.
Check also for tight bends of the tubing, it may not like that.

As I said m8 the unit still cools as well as ever.
Looking thru the forum I saw that Ewok had the very same problem, it would seem there is some kind of controller board fault, as reported by him if he flashed the firmware as soon as it booted it would go back to the normal temp for a bit.
Having spoken to Ewok over pm it looks like I will have to ship it to denmark....Grrrrrr!

Bigsy,
Could you elaborate on what you concluded about this problem for the benefit of others who might have this problem? Thanks ;)
yup turns out nothing to do with firmware, itll be one of the dodgy sensors they were using on the first lot of mach2's.
They have since changed to a different sensor which doesnt seem to read as low as the old ones (but i assume doesnt drop dead like the old ones either), it makes it very hard to compare temps on one mach2 evap temp to another though because in most cases you wont know whether its using the old sensor which gives the impression of better temps by about 5c on mine, or the new one which struggles to reach -50 now (even though cooling itself is obviously unaffected so temps havent actually changed, they just arent at all accurate even at evap level now).

Thanks Ewok :D

There is kind of something wrong with nVentiv quality control...
Now I see that there are damaged sensors.
I have seen several (noted the numbers but don't remember them by heart) CPU kits that had an AMD metal shim in the P4 CPU kit and a P4 metal shim in the AMD kit. The one didn't allow the head to touch the processor and the other wouldn't fit the socket.
Counting, there were 2-3 kits that were missing parts, like the back plate or the allen wrench.
Furthermore, there were at least 2 seen by me that the pipes between the radiator and compressor were very badly bent and ready to break.
....is there something wrong or what?

I agree with you m8 their QC stinks!
I know a couple of people off another forum where I normally post who have also had to send there units back to denmark for one reason or another.

I think that most of the severe problems are shipping related. It is a long haul from Denmark to the USA and carriers are not exactly gentle with packages, but this needs to be addressed better at the sourse. I have had very limited exposure. I have a Mach1 and a Mach2 and both arrived intact with no problems. I did however ship the Mach1 to Bowman for mods and he took extra care when shipping it back to me. If he can ship so safely, they can too, and should.;)

Well, missing or confused parts in the kits, specific piping bent and so on are not my idea of shipping problems since they come packaged already. A shipping problem would be a broken part, like a broken front as a few that I've seen, the plastic front tends to crack if the shipping is bad. But things don't just jump out or around boxes........
...and I'm not into USA, far closer to Denmark that is.

Missing parts of course as you say, have nothing to do with shipping. Some of the broken piping may however depending on location. Some parts tend to shift in transit, which can result in broken pipes. For example, Bowman secured the compressor with 2 bolts to prevent any movement and it worked very well. Compressor movement during shipping is a confirmed culprit, but I do not disagree with the QC problem from complaints I have heard.

nVentiv sell the units without kits. The reseller chooses the kits he wants, and then bundles them with the main unit on sale... so any discrepancies between CPU Kits being incorrect etc are 80% of the time down to who you bought it off...

This has nothing to do with kits that are sold sererately, as well as nothing near 'errors' when parts are missing or are incorrect inside the kit box itself.

Well nventiv isnt one of those companies that can trace their roots many years back. Their a new company and are doing very well imho, especially when being compared to asetek which has been out there for much longer.
Not only has nventiv been able to create a superior cooling unit, the mach2 but their also able to create a chillcontrol that works with EVERY darn motherboard out htere unlike asetek (cought cc v2)
I know it really bites to have screwed up mounting kit/messed up temp sensor but all big companies make mistakes. Makes me recall the time some lady found a rats head in her bigmac (thats like winning the lottery though)

I think they do a pretty good job overall....they make a good product imo....better than vapo or any other product of it's type.

Yeah I gotta agree. See going with the "new guy" isnt always a bad idea. Heck im glad I done it. I got mine for $150 cheaper then the VapoXe and I get mor e performance, more compatibility, colder temps :) from an offical reseller too
hey The Dude thats an awesome top :)
