Hey,

i just got me a second hand vapo (the original one :) ), but the evaphead is pretty scratched up and cause its a AMD-model, we don't like scratches.
I was wondering if lapping it would be a good idea, or should i just leave the scratches on it ?

En passant, what are the possibilities for getting the max performance out of this unit?
Other gas, ...

For the moment the papst is changed by a enermax 120mm but it will soon be changed again with a Panaflo - 120mm "HIGH" 103.8cfm 41.5dba TH1A Fan or the Panasonic 120mm 'ULTRA'
115cfm 45.5dba U1A Case Fan (every little thingy helps ;) )

I'm also thinking about just isolating it with neoprene instead of using that heating element. Good idea or not?

Lapping the cooling head wont hurt, just be sure and keep it flat. 600 grit paper is all ya need. You will be fine without the heating element, I never used mine on either the promie or vapochill without issues.

Its gonna be near impossible to lap the cooling head because of u having to hold the evaporator head and applying yur sandpaper to it. If i were i would not lap it because if u do, u bound to have it lapped slightly angled.

I would protect the head sides and clamp it in a vice to lap it, should work well, just don't damage it when securing it. ;)

Like TheDude said, clamp it to a vise, then use some sandpaper taped to a plate of glass (maybe twice as big as the head). With care, that ought to do a nice, flat lap.

I think i'm gonna lap it with just a 1600grid (wet) sandpaper on a piece of mirror and only apply a fw strokes to reduce the depth of the scratches. Afterwards a bit of copperpolish to finish it of :)

Just be carefull not to overly stress the flexy hoze.

But if it is all scratched up then a lapp probably wont hurt you.
