I'm gonna get a new video card by the end of the week, and I wanted some of the experts or expierenced opinions. I'm either going to get a 9800Pro or XT to go with my system. Would I greatly benefit from a 9800XT? I want the best possible scores I can get. My system is water-cooled, and I don't have any plans to ever go phase-change, will this hurt me greatly? Money is the object here, I just want what's best for my system. Thanks.

BTW: Here's a brief list of my system

Abit IC7-MaxIII
P4 2.8 @ 3.6
1024MB Kingston HyperX PC3200
2 WD 36GB Raptor Drives
System is Water-Cooled

If it's all about money, you can get new 9800 pro now for $299...get one! But for max performance, the XT is more than an overclocked 9800Pro...and will perform better. But it's up to you... that 9800Pro is a GREAT deal... (at best buy)

That was a total mis-type on my part. I meant to say that money was no object, it doesn't matter. So you think I should get the XT then? That's what I'm leaning towards

Well the XT IS a better card...if you have the $$ then absolutely! Remove the silly copper HS/F slap some ramsinks on there, and put your w/c on the core...probably 540/425.

Go for the XT. Doesn't get any better.

I ordered a Sapphire 9800XT tonight from NewEgg.com. Should be here tomorrow or Saturday (overnight). My 3DMark03 scores were 3795 with my setup and a 9600Pro. I'm hoping to hit 6000 with the new setup, I don't know if that's possible though.

Yeah you should get 6000. More probably when you overclock it!

yea, i would say if you dont get 6000, something is greatly screwed up. ;) i think 7.5k is what you should aim for. ;) if not higher.

Only when taken to the absolute max, and compared to a Pro at its absolute max....and thats IF you get a good one that clocks to 600 core. And not everyone does that.

Otherwise it may only be worth 500 just from the faster ns memory chips.

7.5k is about the most you can expect with stock cooling and no vmods. That'll require a good OC also.:)

Get the XT... it's way better no matter what you plan on doing with benchmarking. 3D DX9.0 games rock on the XT!!!:D

In games it wont make any real difference... it may make a slight difference in future games... but I doubt you will still have it in a years time anyway.

So it depends on what 500-1000 3dmark points are worth too you...

Personally I have a slightly lower 3dmark score and a few more $$$ in the beer jar..

HEHE, I'm not a drinker. I build and race imports, and computers...that about sums me up.

I got a Sapphire 9800XT yesterday (ordered at least). Thanks to all of you for giving me your honest opinion, it really helped. I had to order the XT b/c it's my nature, if I don't have the best then I'll do whatever I have to unitl I get it. I could've ordered a 9800Pro and saved a few bucks, but I would've still ended up buying a XT, it would've drove me crazy!!

Once again, thanks to all that helped. I appreciate it alot!!

Well you and I must not define "real" in the same way. I have a 9800 Pro with a Zalman and a 9800 XT stock. Even with the crap stock cooler I see marked improvement in games, especially the newer ones that have much information on the screen.

What kind of testing have you done that would contradict my statement? I don't get your point.

Beer is for drinking, not saving!:D

yea he is right, who needs more than 100fps with all eyecandy? also the xt isnt much higher clocks stock and when both overclocked, the gap gets even smaller. plus the r420 is comming in like March or so and now thats worth the difference, the xt isnt

Really? And how long have you had your 9800 cards?

Let's see some benches to support your claims, because MY 9800's don't agree with you.
