View Full Version : Killed an A64 - new one arrives today

Well I had been running the stock HSF on my A64 chip and ordered a CU7000 from Zalman to hold me over until I get my phase change system after Christmas. In attempting to remove the stock HSF from the unit I managed to rip the entire CPU from the socket while still in the locked position. Numerous pins were damaged and one was completely torn off. Fortunately it was less then 30 days old and the folks at Best Buy were more then happy to take it back. New one gets here today so heres hoping for some newer stepping as well :)

Yes, you can order them from Bestbuy.com. It was $489 when I ordered it so they aren't the cheapest place to buy from but support is great and I get 6 months no payments no interest on my Best Buy card :)
I'm hoping to get to 2400 or so on air but should be ordering a custom phase change unit from Baker18 after X-Mas sometime :D

dang, how did you manage to do that?! you didn't use hammer+pliers did you?:D well, your cpu is dead, you just have to insert the pin in the socket and then install the chip.

I'm surprised best buy was willing to replace it. Good luck with the new chip though.

Hopefulyl by christmads they will have better mbs. It will be very hard running 2.5~2.8 for daily use due to lack of pci lock and harddrive corruption
