Hey guys I was going to run my Mach I on a seperate Power Supply to have a little more control over it and stop any issues w/ my 875 chipset.

I have a year old RaidMax 400W ATX Power Supply - how does this hook into the Mach I and how do I set this up? The unit won't be here for a few more days but I am curious. I know about shorting the 4th and 6th ATX pins to get the PS to turn on - I was planning on pulling these wires out of the connector and soldering some wires leading to a switch (one with a cover on it so nobody bumps it off) - ideas/thoughts?

Yes that PSU will do fine because the mach1 is not powered from the psu.

MAx all you need to do is connect the prommy molex to the psu and shove everything in the case and your good to go.

Then I would stick a paperclip intop the 4th and 6th pins on the psu(shorting) and this way it will turn on as soon as the psu gets power. then just have the psu unplugged from the ac outlet and eveytime you want to turn the prommy on just plug the ac outlet in the wall. this is alot easier then having the molex hanging out of ur case (ugly) and you wont have to shorten the pins everytime you want the prom on. this is how i did it with my mach1 [gettin a mach2 now :)]

or you could do it your way. soldering the wires 2 a switch will also work. the way i mentioned above will be less ofa hassle but if you want to spend some time and do it right your method would vbe more convient because it is annoying to always come up to the wall jack and stick somethign in/out

I think I will try the soldering to a switch - best thing I thought of was the jet fighter weapons style switch. It's kind of gaudy but it's nice and covered.

Where do I tuck the PS into? The bottom of my case or into the prommie case?

Also, I have a really nice PS (Antec Stealth 520W) and I could power the Prommie off it without any problems I can think of except for how to control the unit's off/on.

Does the Prommie have to use that curcuit and all that stuff for using w/ the motherboard in the traditional style or can you just plug the PS directly into it and operate it in what I call a "dumb mode" where it's on/off by your control.

"The mach I is not powered from the PSU" - I assume you mean it's not powered by the PSU that powers my system and is powered by the extra PSU I have.

One other thing - what if I just got a 12V 1.5A power supply from radio shack and wired it to a Molex connector? Would that be an easier solution?

Don't prommies run off of a regular 120v wall outlet?

Prommi runs direct off mains with it's own plug. It needs 12v feeding to it's molex so that the relay THINKS it's plugged onto a PC and keeps the unit running. You can use a cheap n cheerful 12v multi-voltage adapter or another PC to provide this 12v...

I think that's what I'll end up doing - sounds like a much easier solution. What power requirement does this connection require?

since it's only for measuring whether the pc is on or not, power consumption will be low to zero...

What would be the best way to send power to it?

Couldn't you just plug it into your current PSU and be done with everything? I mean how hard would it be to drill a lil hole through your case and shove a molex through it  And if it takes no to little power to run it then it should not be any kind of problem at all.

Nope - there is a problem with the Mach I and the 865/875 chipsets b/c the Mach I puts it in a continuous reset mode until it attains the right temp.

this is what i did to mine...

i used an AC adaptor to power the Mach1's molex..i believe it supplies power to the carel controller, fans and relays...
i also connected the heating element to the adaptor so that i can leave the prommy on without worrying about condensation/ frost built up inside the cpu area when the motherboard is turned off/ or turned off accidentally....

so far this method works well for me...

The Mach I comes w/ the heating element, right?

Mine didn't.... they all have em built in to the head, but whether you get a separate one for the back face of the board is anyones guess these days... most places still shipping MkI units are putting in MkII mounting kits with em, which means yes you get the pin heater by default, BUT, the 2 screws you get with the MkII kits are longer than the MkI screws (or the other way round, can't remember off hand) so you tend not to get the same amount of downforce... more washers required!
