I'm bidding atm on a Kryotech renegade (review (http://www.heatsink-guide.com/renegade.htm) )

I can get it for a nice price, i'll place the renegade in the room next to this one. the pump for my WC will also be located there, with the hoses through the wall. It'll cool down my water to 15° and I won't have any noise in this room.

what do you think about it? are there any ways to improve the Renegade's cooling power or efficiency? (I won't use TEC's as it will cost my parents too much)

ask bowman etc if you can replace the koolant to get lower temps ;)

I'll consider that. have a look at it, the compressor cooler (the copper pipes) really look like crap. if I'd cool it better, would that give me lower temps?

got it today :toast:

as I've thought, those copper pipes have to dissipate all the heat from the compressor. I'm thinking of placing a radiator and maybe filling it then with some better gas.

what do the pro's over here think about that?

I've heard the unit uses a Siemens compressor and they say it's about undestructable, the last thing that might break down in a refrigeration unit. is it true that the kind of oil in the compressor determinates what sorts of gas can be used?

Yep, ditch those coils, replace with a nice big heatercore, then gas with 404 or 507 if it'll take it...

While yer at it you'll have to adjust cap tube for the gas anyways, so u may as well ditch the suction hose, get a new length n' a baker CPU Evap block and redo both ends...

don't use a heatercore that will pop like a zit
use a condensor instead

that would get me a killer setup, but I'm not willing to pay more then 70€ for it. I'll use the unit to chill water but I don't want to have condensation problems though. I'd be satisfied if my water is between 10 and 15° :)

a better radiator is a must. I'll replace the gas either by the stock 134a, or some gas that performs better but doesn't cost a lot more then the 134a.

I don't think I'll change the cap tube. I'll consider changing the suction hose, what advantage would it give?

propane(R290) works in R134a sys and is cooler and alot cheaper then other gases:D

phew, I've finally found out how to take the stuff out of the case

written on the compressor:
americold commercial
gd30mb
220-240v - 50hz

r134g

01281 0009 111111

on the other thing (how's that called?)
kx-3
made in USA
r-12, r -22, r-134a, r-500, r-502

ok, so those gases are compatible with my setup. what one would give the best performance?

R502 would be the coldest but it has ben banned for a while but 2nd coldest would probably be R22 but u need to give your compressor a oil change to use it
also i think that info u just give out is only for the drier not the sys in general

that's possible, I don't know much about that.

i've placed 3 120mm fans anda 80mm fan of 65cfm around the unit to cool the radiator and the compressor. with no load it's about 9°. with a 72W peltier the temp goes up to 42° and then drops to a 17-18°. not to bad with such a crappy radiator

the big yellow thing on the bottom of the compressor prevents oil to go out of the compresser, someone told me it's compatible with other gasses but it might not work as well.

I'll find someone in my town that knows a lot about fridges, I'll let him sort out everything for me.

Case parts will have a condenser for your setup. you will need a unit bering motor+mount+fan, and filter drier. The oil in your compressor is compatiable with R507,R22,R134. It is an R134 compressor and will have polyolester oil. The ameicold compresors are some of the best, they usuall are made to run at 1/2 the rpm of the Tecumseh or Copeland

The Renegade keeps its promise - the "cold plate" will be kept at 20-27°C

That must mean with the computer off!!!!

I remember that thing from the 90's,

Guess you could bypass the room temp control that it's supposed to keep it at.

I see kryotechs on ebay every once in a while.
