Hi guys, as my PC is down I finished building my second son's PC and I'm using it till mine is fixed, so as I'm trying to partition the hard drive I get this message ( Access is Denied ) the pic shows exactly what it is.

I did every thing I could think of, making sure I'm Administrator and every thing. I google it to and no luck. Can some one help? :brick:
Thanks for any help.

Needs more info. Which partitioning program? What hardware and HDD? Which version of Vista? Can you walk us through exactly what you're doing?

I'm using windows to partition it, I have vista home prim 64bit, hdd is a W.D. blue 400GB, board is a Asus Maximus II Formula, CPU E8400 @3.11, Ram is Kingston HyperX T1 2X2GB, Video is HIS 4670. I go into :banana::banana::banana: Management under Admin Tools and Computer Management than I right click on the C drive click on shrink, it start to do it's thing for a few seconds than the message comes up.
I have partition my driver like this before and this is the first time this happen.

The included partitioning tool in Windows Disk Management will not allow you to shrink the partition currently marked as active (I'm presuming because you're trying to shrink the C: drive that this is the currently active system partition - which it will be unless you renamed things).

You're going to need to either boot into the Vista setup disk, press Shift+F10 to access the command line, and then use diskpart, or use a third-party program to shrink the currently active partition - there are loads, just Google around.

Thank you Souls for the help and respond. Last night before I went to bed I figured it out I was making the partition to big for the size my HDD is. I have 70GB partition for back up, so the size I was trying for was reaching in to the OS and files which is why it was stopping me. I thought I didn't have full Admin or I didn't set something right.
All so if some one has a FAT32, FAT16 or FAT file system no one can't partition using windows but if they have an NTFS file system you can use windows as NTFS is a very flexible file system.
Thank you.
