i took a chance and ordered an oem 1.4 duron for $36 from newegg, and got a 'b' stepping. hope i can unlock the cache...:banana:

I thought they were locking the cache's as well as the multiplier's on the week 40+'s? Just from the speculations i've read.

A T-Bred B shouldn't be locked. A Barton/Thorton would be locked.

I'll zap an old isa rage64 with 110v for your sacrifice to the hardware gods. Maybe this will improve your modding odds.

gotta love newegg!!! just checked my shipping status on the mobo for this cpu, and it will be here by 4:30 at the latest tonight!! looks like i get to play with a new duron tonight hehehe

New (or the last batch) of Tbred Bs ARE locked.
They've stopped making Tbreds though.

the L2 cache can definately be unlocked :) check the amd section, a few peaople posted about it already.

ok, my mobo doesnt allow a change of multi anyways, so i dont know it that is locked. was able to get it up to 2310 ( 220x10.5) on 1.85v and stock amd hsf. i was borrowing a video card tho, so i didnt have alot of time, and forgot to take screenies. once my xabre comes in and i set the whole rig outside, i bet i can hit 2.4
in the mean time, i am going to do the L2 cache mod to see if it works. wish me luck men and women! :toast:

Man that is scary. That thing is way fast, espesially for only 36 bucks. Hopefully the mod works for ya and doesn't slow down the chip much. I have seen a few that the mod worked but it brought down the oc a lot.

leadtek winfast model k7 ncr18d nforce2 got it for $35 newegg refurb :D

Nice price for a nforce2. Even if it doesn't auto-unlock.
