So not much advantage over thye via boards as far as overclocking is concerned.

hmm,so how macci managed to run his IDE Seagate drive at 351fsb without a lock? I think there's a PCI lock but it's not working at some fsb frquencies. Anyway i think AGP lock is more important than PCI lock.

Only way I could get it running 330Mhz+ FSB stable was with a 66Mhz capable Promise Ultra 133 TX2 ide card:)

Funny how this little item is never really disclosed by any oif the manufacturers one way or the other, like it is some dirty little top secret.

Not if you have and oscilliscope and a PCI sound card :P

But even once we know these things they usually arnt particually usefull... at least they havent been for me in the past.

Same here, I would probably have gotten an A64 a while ago if the damn PCI was locked. :(

they were all using 66mhz pci-ide cards i think...

Guys atleast there is a solution for the nforce3 mobo... we can all get a PCI SATA and PATA cards and use our HHD on them...

But the strange thing is i can run 351fsb on my WD raptors SATA from windows and i didnot use any external PCI card... and i didnot get any hhd corruption... but through the bios i can only get a 225fsb

so the PCI/AGP can be locked from windows... but not from the bios... so all it might take is a new bios update...

So you're using ClockGen to manually set PCI and AGP?

Big assumption there... very big one.

Your assuming that just because your hard disks havent corrupted that the PCI is "in spec"

You can have PCI bus miles out and still keep the HDD's working.

Plus.... NF2 has a seperate clock for IDE devices that is indipendant from the PCI clock.... so just because the PCI is out of spec your hard disks may not be...

These sorts of things are 99% hardware based, bios may be able to tweak things for better stability, but you cant add in PCI locks or deviders that dont exist.

Well guys good choices for not getting A64

The onslaught is almost upon us :)

The FX-53 [939pin]will be realeasing shortly (Q1) and the Prescott is on the way. Also the A64 3400+ will be out soon.

As soon as the mbs get ironed out...we will have some great performance.
Even if the prescott will turn out to be a pos (time will only tell) then we will have MANY other great cpus to try. Such as Fx-53 and 3400+ also the northwood is looking very attractive right now imho.

Im hoping that the A64 prices drop too a more affordable level.

Id like to try one, but as Im able to play all my games (even new ones) at high res with only 2.5gig on my XP, seems silly to blow loads of cash just for a better bench.

(2,5gig due to aircooling)

Im investing in other stuff ATM, mostly tooling and equipment for some mods im planning, as well as damned prommy repair.

Is it possible that the PCI bus is tied to the mem speed??

so 330+ 5:3 is the same pci speed as 270 1:1 on the mem??

That is what seems to be happening in my experiences with 2 different mobos....
