try covering it up with clear nail polish.
If that doesnt work, it means u cut a trace..

Could also be too much pressure on the socket, warping the mobo ? Is there a backplate being used ?

There is a lot of space there and as you say it's a surface scratch, so if it doesn't work I would try to repair it. :yepp: Take magnifying glass and small piece of sand paper and take of just a little more protective varnish around that scratch, maybe half a millimeter around sides. You should see if you broke any trace and if you are handy with soldering... you know what I'm thinking. Use transparent nail polish when you finish, as said. You have nothing to loose, cause, I hate to say, but your warranty is void, as you know. :(

there shouldnt be any traces going through the space right next to those mounting holes...
if theres anything close to pcb holes its usually ground, and shouldnt be a problem at all... i dont think that this is what causes problems.
again, what kind of problems is he having exactly?
and whats the rest of the system?
did it ever work fine in that config?
if yes, what was changed or what happened between it working and it not working fine?
if no, what config did it run fine in?
