Hi,

looking to maybe upgrade on the next intel release but im having a hard time understanding why we are at 6 cores now?

most things we use struggle to use 2 cores let alone 6?

i mostly play games and havnt seen any performance hit yet from the stuff coming out.

is there really the need to overclock these chips these days?

also when are these chips being released?

advice welcome

thanks

Depends on your usage. I crunch numbers all day, every day. I would kill for 6 (or even 128) cores. :D

u get an automatic 12 inch epenis with each purchase... didnt u know that? :X

But to be serious.... its a hobby.
I bet probably a good 90% of the gulftown's that will be sold outside the enterprise sector wont be utilized anywhere near its potential, but people will buy them because there the apex.

i'm in the same boat. the more the merrier. between development on db's, erp, web server, etc, i'll take all the hp i can get. plus, it's always nice to see your blu-ray movies converted to mp4's in 30% less the time :D

If its just for folding better build a new cheap i7 920 system for 1000 euros instead of just an i9 cpu. In that way you gain 2 cores and 4 threads more.

so would a Dual core with HT be better for gaming when they release?

I9 is 32nm. It is just great. I go I9 next year. I3, I5 and I7 is nothing for me :)

The people who will be using this chip the most are going to be folding. 6 cores 12 threads put's a little more juice for finishing that Big WU, plus heavy number crunching power too. Don't knock it untill you discovered all aspects other than gaming on a computer. I9 is drop in ready for the X58 mb's with just a bios update.
