Heh. Because I bought Vista 64 bit only 6 months ago. If I had bought it last year or longer than that, then I would buy OEM but it seems a waste of money to do that now.

OEM is cheaper than the upgrade and it dosnt eat your old key (u forfeit the license from the OS that u upgrade from with the upgrade)

It was a few months ago.
You had to pre order and stick it on a credit card.
And BTW, you can do the same thing with an UPGRADE as you can with an OEM when it comes to installing it.

I tried to "upgrade" with an OEM today but it still wipes most of the software out I think. Non of the programs that I had installed was left. I have an windows.old dir in root and I think that the userfiles will be left alone, not quiet sure since I didn't have anything there to begin with =/
The Upgrade licensce usally keeps all the programs at place and just renews the Windows...

what did upgrade from and too as it sounds like u just installed and did not upgrade, and MS recommends never using the full migration upgrade that keeps programs it will corrupt something and it will require a clean install anyways unless u are upgrading from a clean install (but then why not just clean if its coming from a clean)

i pre-ordered Win7 Pro from the MS store back in July for $100. i have to install my old copy of XP (which i have no intention of using anymore anyway), activate it, then put the 7 disc in and do a clean install over XP. i assume they're making us do it the hard way to fight piracy. whatever - i'm happy to have gotten my copy for $100.

I had the upgrade preordered for $50 but cancelled it as I was able to get Win 7 full for less. You can however get the 3 user upgrade for <$150 by getting it at Staples or the like and using a coupon.

I got the full retail version of Win 7 Pro for £89.99 from when the Pre order offer was on.
