Hello,
I am planning to buy a new system to upgrade my current sucky system.
But I am in doubt about which motherboard to pick for my new 1156 socket system. The Asus Maximus 3 formula p55 or the Gigabyte p55-UD6.
In Holland they cost exactly the same.
The rest of the new hardware will be an i7 860 and OCZ Platinum ddr3-1600 CL7 4gb memory. And I will be overclocking with hopefully a Scythe Mugen 2.
Thanks in advance!
Case: Coolermaster 690
PSU: Corsair 450 watt

I haven't used the Maximus 3, but I can recommend the UD6 (http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/reviews/24750-gigabyte-ga-p55-ud6-living-review.html), it's a really nice board, been using it a few weeks now and it hasn't missed a beat.

What about eVGA? Their boards seem to be doing good and they have socket holes for both 1156 and 775.

Unfortunately eVGA is really hard to get in holland...
Anyone have more ideas?

Asus and Gigabyte are the top dogs in my list, I usually pick one of them each time I upgrade, other brands like EVGA and MSI follow next on my list, but that's only me.

Why waste cash on the 860 ? If it's for gaming go with the cheapo i750 and clock that one up to 4Ghz (dead easy)
I've got the UD6 running for over 2 weeks now and have tested it hard on the ram settings and co, didn't budge besides one no post, but that's about it...
I have no clue what ya exact needs are, but eg an Asus Pro or EVO board will clock your CPU to the same limits as the Max III will, but at a far lower cost... your OC bottleneck will be the cooling anyway so most boards will top out on the same final clockspeed...

I play Flight Simulator X which really depends on the CPU. So that's why.
So you reckon UD6 is better? I have gigabyte alrdy and i love it.

it's not a case of better, that's my point IF you don't tend ot OC the hell out of it, no need to get the most expensive mobo, medium range will do nicely... does FS X benefit form 8 threads ? 750 has 4 cores

@ Unkki
Not recommend to pick for UD6 because of socket burn link at http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=234723 :down::down:
better think twice before you buy it

I read something about low SATA burst speed on one or more Gigabyte
P55 models. Not sure if this is true?
I just ordered the Maximus III for an 860.
I have no doubt that it has bells and whistles beyond my needs,
such as I am never likely to check my o/c from a laptop!
Not a gamer either, just want the max stable o/c on air, so we'll see.
