Already the rumors of Win8 128 bit in 2011.

I will believe it when I see it.

lol windows 8 before you can even buy a retail copy of windows 7?

Help me understand this. Won't a 128bit OS make your CPU cache effectively 4 times smaller than using 32bit?

:ROTF: full 128bit cpu until 2011
don't think so

64bit isn't even "standard" so 128bit is pointless (for now) and I don't think it will change much until 2011

The 3 year product cycle means Windows 8 will not be released until at least 2012/2013, they could in theory offer 64-bit versions only with 'XP-mode' included as standard, all new applications should be coded in 64-bit by then.

In 3 years time 64bit will be the norm in Hardware and alot of software. Using Mores Law the average Motherboard will be able to access 64GB if not 128GB in under 6 years.
So MS having a look at 128bit O/S is good forward planning.

64bit gives an upper memory bound of 17592186044416GB, so i think we'll be okay for a while :)
all the windows 8 rumors are just that, probably written by math impaired pseudo-journalists...

Is there anywhere hardware wise anything avaliable that even supports
16,384EB of ram?

ok, so what is the advantage of 128bit? not like the 64bit can't address enough memory capacity. and with no cpu in the near future to be 128bit so again, what's the point?

there isn't a point, its just unfounded rumors...

So no one read the 2nd and 3rd page of the article?

You may not find PCs running 128bit, but I worked on some Mainframes that had 128bit hardware. Some Mini computers have been 64bit for many years. Why do you think there are so many unix users around the world.

I have heard rumors that AMD's bulldozer scheduled for 2011 currently will be 128 bit.
The advantage of it would be a larges instruction set/more work per cycle.
If the rumor I read is true bulldozer will be able to separate a 64 bit application across 2 threads and 32 bit apps across 4.
if this is true I could definitely see a win 8 128 bit but in 2011? that seems too soon to me especially after MS needs to solidify thier products again especially after the bad public opinion that vista had. Win7 is looking possitive and in order to make users happy again they should build on it and keeps it's "latest/greatest" appeal as long as possible.
The push is definitely not for accessible RAM but a more powerful instruction set.
