i have a very hard time installing windows 7 on my desktop. for some reason, i can't install windows 7 32 bit on it. i have made 6 dvd burning at 2x speed in ImgBurn and still get an error code 0x80070570 every time i try and install. i've even created a bootable USB drive and tried it that way and around 75% of installation, it gives me the error. i've used the same DVDs to install windows 7 64bit on the laptop and it works perfectly fine. so its not the dvds that are bad, even a windows 7 RC 32 CD that i got from UCSD when microsoft was there a few months back dose not work, still get the same error code.

just wondering if its ok to install a 64bit with only 2 GB of DDR3 ememory? would that slow the system down too much? currently i'm running windows xp pro sp3 on the desktop. just wondering if i would loose too much memory performance if i had 64 bit on instead of 32bit? i am planning on getting a 4GB it in the near future when the prices od DDR3 drop a bit more. but in the mean time, i wana experience windoes 7 on desktop.

my system specs are

CPU: E5200
RAM: Crosair XMS3 1333 (2x1GB)
GPU: Sapphite toxic HD4870 512MB
HDD: 500GB Barracuda 7200.11 RPM
PSU: Silverstone Strider ST1000W modular psu
Optical: HP dvd/cd burner w/lightscribe
displey: 24" famousmaker/hp W2408h

More is better but yes 2GB will be fine. Just out of curiosity whats the error code/message?

It will be fine, the choice of OS is more the limiting factor rather than the 32/64bit choice but either way 2Gb is plenty enough to run Windows 7.

just tried and install the windows 7 64bit and gave me the same error :(

"Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation.
Error core: 0x80070570"

but the thing is, i can install windows 7 using the same DVD on my laptop just fine, but on this desktop its not working. can it be that i have a bad optical drive? that is not reading the disk properly? but i have also tried installing it using usb and it gives the same error... so it might be the HDD? i'm confused/frustrated since windows XP installs perfectly fine... argggg

run a full hard disk scan I think you might have a bad sector on your hard drive. Do you get the same error from both DVD's?

yes i get the same error on not just both, but 6 different burned dvd's and 1 original w7 rc dvd from MS. what program/utility should i use to see if i have a bad sector?

Sounds like memory errors, run memtest. reduce memory speed and timings. If your OCing set everything to default then install Win7. When i switched to vista i had problems installing due to an unstable system, but it ran XP fine.

ok, well run memtest and see if it passes, if not, i'll just reset the bios and see if it installs that way. crossing my fingers
