I have been using the OS for a few months now and I did not have any problems. Suddenly, I noticed halts on shutdown, Vista style. It would even stay on 20 minutes and no shut down. I forced it to reboot and I saw a quick bluescreen and then a fast reboot. Upon rebooting I noticed the report. I saw it created a memory dump so I downloaded all the tools needed to analyse the dump. I spent 45 minutes playing with WinDG when I could have used BlueScreen Viewer :rofl:. In any case here is my problem :

1. I ran MEMTEST+
2. I ran Windows memory diagnostics

Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated .

hard drive error, if the system is overclocked your sata drives might be starting to give errors, or secondly you have a bad ram stick, possibly affected by overclock,

do the usual, pull all sticks, set system to stock and test each stick for errors, also loosening the TrFc in the bios from 75ns to 125 or similar might help

unoverclock first of course

I think I found the culprit.I ran MEMTEST but on all memory sticks and not one. Today, after I got home from work, I turned the machine on and look what I found :

1. This picture shows my PC, with 3 G-SKILL RAM Sticks populating the tri-channel slots.

2. The following picture shows how much memory my BIOS actually detects :

As one can see, I have 2 GB missing. So, I started the troubleshooting process. I said its the RAM stick. It broke last night in MEMTEST.

1. Used all sticks in that slot, no go.
2. Used all sticks in the 2nd slot, everything works fine.
3. Used all sticks in the 3rd slot, everything works fine.
4. Used all sticks in the 4th slot, everything works fine.

When I use slots DDR3_1, DDR3_2 and DDR3_4 I have 4GB RAM, when I use slots DDR3_3 DDR3_2 and DDR3_4 I have 6GB or RAM. Obviously something happened with this memory channel. Because UD3R does not have memory re-mapping in its BIOS, as an option, but it fully supports it, without it I could not use the computer 2 months with 6GB in tri-channel mode, the explanation is that the mobo broke.

What windows 7 reports when I use the faulty RAM Channel.

Same problem for me in the last week or so. Windows 7 is only detecting 4GB of ram. I ran Memtest and found I had 1 dead stick, I open my new kit and found I had 2 dead sticks in there as well. So waiting tell later today to receive my new Mushkins Redlines and see if I get 6GB in Windows 7. Maybe it is just W7 not sure.. But I am frustrated as hell trying to figure out if it is the memory or the mobo or the operating system..

For me the problem showed up in BIOS. As you can see from the screenshots, when I use 6GB of RAM in tri-channel, the BIOS reads 4GB. If your BIOS recognises all your RAM then it is Windows. When I use 6GB in dual-channel, the BIOS reads 6GB and everything works fine. I tried singing, chanting, flashing BIOS-es, removing the battery, factory defaults, my 1st tri-channel slot does not recognise any RAM whatsoever. Windows 7 was detecting the problem and I thought it was some driver. It seems that somehow, the Northbirdge connection to the 1st tri-channel slot broke from one day to the next. I used the whole weekend my computer with 6GB in dual-channel and I had no BSOD no nothing. Everything worked fine.

I just came from the post office where I RMA-ed the board. So no more Crysis and MilkyWay@home for me :(:(.

It seems that the issue of 4G vs 6G showing up is related to the contacts on the CPU. Try resetting the CPU in its socket.

I had the same problem and it was my Kingston HypersX sticks. I RMA them and now using Mushkins kit and all is well now. No more blue screens or bdos and it shows now 6GB. Have you tried moving the memory around?

Well, I RMA-ed the mobo. I should be getting another one soon. The culprit channel fails to rad all my sticks. I doubt all of them broke at the same time :). Moreover, all of them work in the other channels and yes I put the processor back 3 times.
